It's been a fun ride but I think it's time to move my 22C on to it's next owner. It's been a fun toy for me and my son over the past 10 years, but he now lives on the other coast and my wife isn't...
Those look like pretty crappy cast gears. I'd think they should be forged.
The fuel pump and tank can't be pretty either.
Here in NJ ethanol-free gas is not available at gas stations or marinas. 100 octane Low Lead is available at airports, but most don't want you pumping...
Pulling and cleaning the carb on my 22C has become a spring ritual before I run the boat ever since we've had ethanol in our fuel around here. The ethanol sitting in the float bowls turns into a...
Yeah, that's about 25% slip with the 30p 4 blade. Way too much. Is that with a 1.5 drive ratio?
What pitch was the Bravo 1?
For comparison, I'm getting about 12% slip with a Merc Max 5 29p
I've tried a variety of props on my 22C and ended up liking The Mercury Max5 the best. I had been using a 27" Max5 with a 650 hp 540ci, Mercury Racing XR Sportmaster drive and Imco 2" Shorty. I later...
A nice even $10,000 per foot!
Since our marine gas in NJ has been blended with 10% Ethanol in it I've been cleaning/rebuilding my carb every spring. Ethanol is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water. It also eats plastic, rubber,...
Give a Max5 29p a try, that should get you nudging 90. You have a very similar setup to my boat.
I'm seeing 89 mph GPS @ 5,400 with 12% slip
I was wondering whether longer planes laid out flat would simulate a longer hull and give me a little more stability at speed and thus give me comfort to squeak out a few more mph. I really never...
Thanks Carl, Kind of what I figured.
Well, now that it's more civilized my wife will even go for a ride.
Nice run Carl!
I have my 22C running pretty fast now, just nudging 90. The boat has a Merc Sportmaster XR drive, an Imco 2" shorty, 29p Max5.
with the 5-blade Max5 prop it comes up on plane easily and the higher I...
Hi Smokediver,
That's a stout engine!
I put a 750 hp 582 ci in my 22C. My engine builder also insisted on 1/2" fuel line which also required a new fitting from the tank. I'm running a Merc Racing...
After building bigger and bigger engines, my 22C was also getting louder and louder. My current iteration with a 750 hp 582 ci, CMI sport tube headers, and 4 1/2" open exhausts was pretty damn loud,...
Matching Donzi Crocs!
I've gotta improve my game :)
Yes, those speeds and engines are correct. The rpm's are guestimates, but close. I don't have a tach with a telltale and tend to keep my eyes on the water when I'm moving.
I previously misstated...
Sorry for the confusion.
I rebuilt the 540 after we found water in it during the summer of 2020. It had picked up sand and overheated. I sent it to Corretti Racing who is now making standard deck...
A brand new set of Gibson 4" mufflers. Part Number 110001
$400 + shipping
Well... now it's a 750 hp 584 ci.
Merc XR sportmaster, IMCO 2" shorty & Max5 29p
As opposed to Carl's boat, mine has little but the prop in the water at speed. Every boat is a little different...
For posterity, I ended up liking the Mercury Max5 29p best. 88 mph at 5,400. We're done :)
Joe is now making 707ci naturally aspirated bored and stroked big blocks with forged internals that put out 900 hp on 93 octane pump gas. Makes me go hmmm....
By my back of the envelope...
Thanks Greg.
I'm on the East Coast, New Jersey shore.
