George,
I agree that if you increase the surface area of the backing plate, you will decrease the psi the COOSA will have to withstand. I just think that despite all of its great...
I have also heard many opinions that COOSA Bluewater 26 is great material for everything except very high compression areas. While COOSA is very strong, it does not handle compression as well as...
This may or may not be relevant to what you are doing, but I saw some talk about air chisels and such and I wanted to add my 2 cents. Having removed all the stringers from my Donzi, I learned that...
Thanks Ted,
Makes sense. Did you reinforce the hull sides or just leave them alone?
Ted,
I saw the post where you talked about coring the running surface on the IL 22. Did you put the core in and then put stringers on top of the sandwich, or did you have the stringers in...
Lenny,
The BH has plenty of bow lift with the BH drive on, but with Arneson it may not, so I am just playing it safe. Even if I don't need to add rocker with the tabs, I think the rocker tabs...
Thanks Big Grizz,
What is a good slip number for an Arnie? I saw Geo refer to slip numbers of 8% but also saw him refer to numbers of 15%.
By the way, I picked up a set of Arneson...
Grizz,
In your post you say "Arneson's are another chapter". What did you mean by that? Does the rule of thumb of turning a big prop slow still apply with Arnesons. I have a set of 1.3 HD...
Carl,
Can you explain the puttty problem? Is it that the strakes were filled with putty and the putty didn't provide any strength?
Carl,
I'm glad for you. My suggestion is to give your glass guy an extra $500 over what Donzi gave him and have him fix it permanently per Lenny's suggestion. Then you would be done with it.
George,
The cracks/voids in my bilge under my engine looked very similiar to the cracks you have by your strake. But, once I got through the mat and cloth and down to the woven roving, they...
Carl,
Unless your hull is laid up differently from mine, I think you will be fine and have only superficial cracks. After spending some quality time with my transom today, I really don't see...
All of this talk of hull cracks made me curious. I spent the day grinding on the inside of the Blackhawk Hull (currently under restoration). I too had significant cracking in the gel between the...
I believe I now understand what Grizz is saying, that when the tabs are in the fully up position, they need to be 10-15 above parallel in relation to the bottom of the boat. Makes sense.
Grizz,
I'm also having trouble trying to visualize what you mean by 10 to 15 degrees up. Are you saying the plates of the tabs need to be 10 to 15 degrees from the horizon?
Keith,
The BH topped out right at 80, and that was truly a white knuckle experience. They made about half of the BH's with the Smokey and the Bandit color scheme and about half with standard...
