I made that plate for my 270 when I went to the solas propeller to gain the clearance. I did not drill any relief holes for water to escape. What issue could that cause? Overheating perhaps?

Thats looking fabulas! Cannot wait to see it in the water!
I boat primarily in freshwater, but have a lot of experience in saltwater as my brother lives in SC on the coast. Don't worry about your Whaler. Make sure you flush the engine on the muffs for a...
Matty, I love the 16 and the 18 without a windshield as I think they look better proportioned than with the old style on the late 60's models. For the Hornet, it is such a beamy boat, that I like...
My marina winterizes about 2000 boats per year. I am a charter captain for them on weekends and the detail department are close friends of mine. They have an incredible amount of knowledge of what...
lady Griz, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Randy in Miami at the International Boat Show in I believe was 2006. He was gracious, kind, knowledgeable and such a joy to coverse with. I bought...
Guys, forgive me if this does not make sense, but I boat mostly in fresh water in NW Iowa. I have open cooling systems in all of my boats. My 302 in the 1968 Donzi has a 140 degree thermostat in it...
Buizilla, sorry that I did not get to meet you at the show. I admired your boat from the dock and when you were running. I had the pleasure of hitching a ride on Berts Fino, definitely a highlight...
Bert, was that picture taken on lake Monroe by Sanford? I am on my way to Tavares this afternoon, will see you soon!
Jay, I just had to comment on what a beautiful boat that you have for sale. I love the Lucan Red and have admired this boat for quite a while every time I would see a picture of it here on this site....
I am redoing my interior on my 1968 18' Classic. I have the interior at my upholsters shop and the one bucket seat is not good enough for a pattern. Does anyone have a bucket seat that they would...
I will be there in spirit. What a perfect way to memorialize Scot! I got to talk with Scot a year ago in my quest for that elusive bench seat Hornet. Cheers to you Scot! Godspeed!
Well, at least you got to show the Baja what it is all about! If it makes you feel any better, I lost a gear in my upper on my Volvo 250 this Spring when I did the St. Johns River run. That was...
What would you guys use for my all black 1968 18' classic. It is the original two front buckets with what I call the low profile buckets. The bottoms are beginning to split on the seams and the...
Matty, it never cools down. I have to either get it back on plane above 30MPH or shut it down and let it cool for an hour or so.... As soon as I get it on plane, it goes right down to 160. I...
All great points on this thread for me to check on my 1972 270 drive. I had new bushings and hoses on the drive replaced 6 summers ago, so that may be the case. This year, we pulled the thermostat...
Matty, that is a big boat to push, so I think that is pretty decent.
As for my overheating issue, it is funny, as I start the boat from a cold start, it pumps a lot of water out the exhaust. If I...
Matty, that is pretty decent in my estimation. My 72 Hornet GPS'd out at 49 and some change. Close to 4800RPM pushing a Solas 21. Original 320HP SBC. It is crazy to put this boat next to my 69...
Looks like a nice boat. Are the graphics on the side decals or painted? I'm old school and prefer the stock look, would love to see some interior shots.
I had this same issue on my Hornet this Spring. 1972 SBC, Volvo 270. Every thing checked out fine. 2 year old Interstate battery was the culprit. Load tested it and it had a dead cell.... I know...
Glad to hear that you are feeling better Brad! Cannot wait to see pictures of your project. I will look around my neck of the woods for some Volvo parts. They are pretty few and far between these...
I will try to get some pictures. This weekend, I had some time on Sunday to dial it in a bit more. set the idle down to about 650 RPMS, so it shifts nice and smooth. It just keeps running better...
After having the Volvo 250 outdrive take a leave of absense on my March trip in Florida, I found a rebuilt hybrid outdrive put together from a mechanic friend of mine. We had a 270 upper mated to a...
Dan, Glad you got it figured out. Sometimes that happens with weak coils as well.
Bob, I believe that my gear ratio is 1:61, but not absoulutely sure. My mechanic has a 270 drive on order. If that fails to materialize, I will get in touch. Where are you from? I am so ready for...
