1966 mgb
1966 MGB in Tartan red w/ overdrive (rebuilt prior to my purchase – works great). I have owned it for four years and it has been very reliable and gets lots of smiles and stories. I have taken it to many local Sunday car rallies at the coffee shop and it easily holds its own with exponentially pricier company.
The car was largely restored prior to my ownership with:
Rebuilt engine, new interior (black w/ red piping), new top, new tonneau, oil cooler, radiator fan, electronic ignition, new fuel pump and back up solid state fuel pump, H4 halogen headlights, Lucas driving lights, chrome wheels w/ knock offs, battery charger (with remote cut-off switch) in trunk, Sony stereo/CD etc....

We stored a MGB in the barn for a couple of years. My Dad's buddy had one in college and sold it when he got married. Usual story, he missed that car for 25 years and finally decided to buy one. Found one out in Cali (not sure how, this is pre-internet) and flew out there with his old college roommate to buy it and drive home to WI sight-unseen. They showed up with some cash, a change of drawers, and a road atlas.
The body and drivetrain turned out to be solid but the interior was a basket case and the top was shredded. Both these big guys crammed in that little car and road tripped it home over the course of four days. Sitting on their carry-on suitcases because the seat bottoms were gone, no instrumentation, flakey lights, wearing hefty bags in rainstorms, etc. Total boondoggle. They still tell stories about that trip.

Ed- the nose/bonnet is plastic. Only weights about 25 or 30 lbs and hinges forward. And hopefully it will be quite a bit faster than the MGB. It is actually more of a Franken-Sprite w/ a 1375cc Datsun engine (Austin valve covers), w/ Crane cam, Weber downdraft and a 5-speed all synchro transmission. A little over 100hp in a sub 1300 lb car.
It's not a Cobra killer, but it should be a hoot. Actually a lot like the Donzi, they're both: old, small, cramped and loud. And neither is as fast as it looks or sounds! But that's besides the point!
DH - everywhere I went, someone had a great old MGB story to tell me. I'll miss that car but I imagine the Sprite will be the same experience and for the record, i don't plan on any transcontinental trips! :eek: :drive:
