I was suprised today when I walked out and looked at my boat and noticed my new mirage plus SS prop is rusting. What is up with that? all in the letters and on the tips, and inside . It has only been in fresh water. Is this normal?

James,
yes it is normal....but if you keep it
sprayed with WD-40 after pulling the boat
out of the water it won't rust.

Hi
in the case of S/S props rust is a good thing early props did not rust and bent real easy. So the engineers added high carbon steel which makes them real tough, so rust is good!

Muratic acid will take all of the rust off with no problems.

I have used nev-r-dull wadding too.

To shine it up (from the matt finish), I hand water sanded the prop. started at 600,1000,1200 and 2000. I used a solution of water and dishsoap with the 2000 and compounded it with Finesse-It by 3M. My 4 blade looks exceptional now. All kinds of compliments when I am dropping her in the water or towing her around.

. . . or you could just idle out of my canal at low tide!

I always get a kick out of this subject. My buddy bought stainless steel headders from Motorsport for his Mustang. They rusted pretty quick. I know it has to do with the steel/carbon content of the material, but we just like to poke fun at him. I have two Mirage Plus' and have never seen this on either.
