Help! Leaky Volvo drive

I sold my old Donzi to a buddy and the drive,Volvo 280, is leaking gear lube out of the exhaust cavity when the drive is left in the up position. This is the cavity that the exhaust would pass through if it had through prop exhaust. Any help would be appreciated, Kurt.

your bellows is leaking,replace the bellows, while your at it put new universals in.
replacing the belows cals for removal of the upper gear housing, might as well inspect everything.
Or you could run the drive for the season and then do an overhaul.

The bellows is fine, it is leaking out of where the exhaust would pass through the drive at the drive/transom port.

hmm mine is sealed off, but I have a 250.
there is a plug in the hole.
like a cap on the side of an engine block.

get a new cap?

The exhayst goes through the cavitation plate if is there you have a shifter plate leaking or a seal between the top and gear case. If it is on the prop shaft then it is gear casse prop shaft seal.
