Well, I have found a 1975 Spirit in Conn. and have a surveyor lined up to look at it. Then I starting thinking about the Transmission. The boat has a MCM MercTrans attached to a 502 (obviously repowered). It is a project boat, no trailer, needs short block and I am sure other things....
My question is about the transmission... I can budget for the short block and trailer and misc... But a transmission conversion would put me over the limit. I do not think it will last long attached to a 502,and I know they are no longer available. It is not fun to run a boat always waiting for something to break! I have that trans in my 21 GT, but with a small block and it has been trouble free.Any insight into this or the overall boat would be appreciated before I pay for a survey!
