When I read the ad I presumed that the date (1996) was an error , another example of someone hitting the 'submit button' before proofreading .
Was the 16OB even in production in 1969 if that's what he meant to say ? I'm thinking that it maybe had a resto in 1996 , otherwise I thought the same thing about the price as you did .

I'm the owner of this boat And I guess I need to educate some on the 16 o/b's. 1972-1978 original o/b babies made 183 total. 1996 classic o/b 5 or 6 made. Most dont even know they made a 1996 Donzi 16 o/b's. Again this boat and motor no restoration. It was retro to make it look like a 1972 era 16 o/b. the original o/b's ultra rare by itself, let alone the 1996 with half a dozen made. There are alot of 16 Sporters, & classics out there in all different levels of price and condition, but not too many original o/b's and you cant compare a inboard to a o/b two different boats.

Thanks, Damn Donzi.

Well , check it out , you can teach an old dog new tricks ! I don't think that I can recall ever hearing about a few OB16's being made again in '96 .
Maybe for us lot who are so used to seeing misrepresented Donzi ads (and we get a bit jumpy sometimes because of that) it might have been better to clearly say that this was a very limited run 1996 OB16 that you put an old engine on to keep it retro looking and it was not to be confused with the original early 1970's boats.
It wasn't difficult to muddle my brain when I saw '1996' for the boat and '1969' for the engine .
No offense intended . It really is a very cool boat and I'm sure that it's probably a helluva lot better built than the earlier models .

They actually started building the 16 Baby OB in August of 1970. You are correct, they stopped in early 1978.

Remember when you first posted about this beauty of yours Rick. Sad to see you're selling/sold her. Wouldn't be surprised if this went to Norway. Those fellows love classic performance boats and this 'retro look' one is the best of both worlds. The Mercury 'Tower of Power' motors are very sought after over there too.

----I was working the booth that year (1971) for the Chisholms. It was a load of fun. I got to meet Soupy Sales, and Ed McMahon and helped sell several boats. Shortly after I managed to wangle a dealership and two outboards were included in the 1st order.......Bill S

Thanks for the kind words and I hope I didn't come off too strong with my previous comments I'm certainly no expert, But I think I've a lot from this site and others, any Classic inboard or outboard Donzi are premium boats and pricing I think reflects that. For now I'm keeping my 16 and will see what the future holds.

Thanks,
D. D.
