Alright, who is feeling smart today?

One of the mods I will be making is to my reman motor (302 Ford) is relocate the oil temp gauge sender. Where do you boys recommend to pick up the highest oil temps? Pan Bottom? Side? In the past I tried a T in the oil pressure gauge pipe for the temp sender but that was a dead-leg.

The oil temp sender on my old 502MPI was in the engine block near the oil filter attachment.

Where is it now?

Do you have an oil cooler or remote oil filter?
I would think it easier to plumb into the hot side of a cooler or a remote filter.
Sure welding a boss on the side of the oil pan works. I would not put it on the bottom of the pan because of clearance or being able to get to it while the engine is in the boat.

Patrick, the sender is (or was) installed in a T at the motor adapter for a remote filter. I still like that location (where the oil leaves the block toward the filter) because the oil flowing past the sender kept the measurement always updating. I may put it back there I'm going to have to invest in Aeroquip lines and fittings as I'm too gun shy now to use rubber hoses (although I admit the loose hose was my oversight) :frown::frown:.

I would not be concerned about oil temp coming from the eng. but more importantly, what is the temp of oil going into pump to lube eng. So I would put sender in pan.

I've never seen that pan before. I want to keep my pan as it has an 8+ quart capacity, and it's free :). I'm leaning toward installing a bung (from one of those "add a drain plug" kits) somewhere above the lowest point of the pan which should be the hottest accumulated oil.
