Hi, well I found the source of my vibration on my 16. The u joints weren't so hot and it looks like at some point in this drives life a u joint let go and bent one of the ears on the center yoke. It looks like someone beat the yoke with a hammer and now the ring lands are kinda crushed. Does anyone have the center yoke for the u joints on a volvo 280 with external clips? Or I need the older style yoke with the internal clips that slides over the output shaft from the engine. Any help would be great. Thanks

The course spline, are they rounded teeth or the square teeth? And also is external clip or internal? Thank you, Chris

I'm pretty sure all the Penta yokes are external clips. The clips go on the inside of the yoke though.

This is a course spline yoke.

OK, so I have a course spline yoke. The teeth on my splines are more rounded. And have clips that go on the outside of the yoke not inside of the yoke. I actually picked up a 270 volvo. I pulled the yoke assembly out and put it in mine but I couldn't get the female spline to slide over the male end. That's when I noticed I had the same spline count but the female spline liked exactly like the one shown above and the male side on my boat were more rounded. Also the original female spline off of the drive was more rounded.

A picture is worth a 1000 words.
Something don't sound right. Every 280 I've seen have had the same yoke system.

When I get home I'll post a pic up of it. My dad was looking into it as well and he found that it might be a yoke assembly from an volvo sp. I found a pic on the web. I think that's going to be the yoke I need.84816

The one you are showing the U joint caps go in from the outside but the clip is on the inside.

I looked at a 250, 270, 280 and a 290 today and all were like this one with the clips on the inside. You can see the groves in the caps where the red arrows are. Yours is a first for me. It's like the driveshafts in my inboard boat.

What's the shaft look like sticking out of the transom?

I'll have to get a picture when I can. The boat is sitting on a lift at my dock. But that's the story of my life, lol. I might have found a donor boat with the newer sp drive on it. After doing some more research it looks like that may be what i need.
