I sheared off a couple teeth on my trailer winch, so I need to get a new one. I can't find any rating on the old one. What size can I get away with?

Thanks.

I think I used one of these Fulton 3200# 2 speed Fulton winches.
I like overkill.

My stock one is also two speeds and is rated at 2,300 lbs. That's a good price on the one George posted. Here is another option: http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Overtons-2-500-lb-Two-Speed-Brake-Trailer-Winch-With-24-Strap&i=81187&r=view&from=grid

It says "Lock nuts eliminate problems from road vibration" but if you look close at the picture the handle nut is loose and there is damage. LMAO

I seem to remember changing the handle nut to a SST Nylok nut.

I think it could depend radically on your approach to loading, though that can be pretty ramp-dependent also. I've seen folks do a LOT of high-tension winching that I think isn't the right way to go. Rather, I lean toward getting the trailer further in the water, with very little winching needed, and under fairly low tension. Even so, I'm with George. I believe I have the 3200lb Fulton 2-speed, with a slightly heavier boat, and have been very happy so far.
