Starting a new thread with regards to the Powerboat Archive. The quality of the uploaded films is usually really impressive. To watch Don Aronow in high quality footage from the 60's for example is such a treat. The P.A. used to have a lot of these videos available on their website a few years back, but they became only available to members after a while and then not available at all. Then suddenly last year or so they started uploading on YouTube and one can now easily end up spending hours watching classic offshore racing there. Here's just one example, '40 Years of Cowes',

Raced one for years .. Great boat in rough waters . Was suppose to be in" Rothchild" for the World Championships, but had a knee operation and they placed 2 nd in Key West with 6-8 footers.

Too bad You missed out on Key West that year, but at least your knee is still functioning to the point that you still don't mind venturing into the triple digits. Wish you much luck this season and most likely you'll give that Swede a run for his money in the 22 and hit 100 knots. Got to applaud Your concern for others safety too. Saw Your threads giving Lifeline vests away at cost to encourage folks to stay safe.

Melbourne was host for the 1980 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship. The presentation by British Videovision is just fantastic and we get to follow, in an intimate setting, among other legends; late Betty Cook, Bill Elswick, Joey Ippolito, Errol Lanier, Clive Curtis, Ted Toleman, Michel Meynard, Jack Cunningham and Sammy James. These individuals seem all so humble, modest and exude class in a way that was long gone 10 years later in the sport. Fab flick!

Sad to see this video is no longer up since it was a treat.

Lars, I raced many years with these people and wouldn't change the fun and friendships for anything .. To bad the sport was ruined as I would still be racing the "Real Offshore".

I guess all sports have their 'Golden Age', but that real offshore racing with participants being in a way equally into the camaraderie and social aspects as well as giving it all to win, in most respects only lasted 25 years at least in First Class, was very sad indeed. Glad You were able to enjoy it while it lasted Sir.
