Those of you that have installed the plastic mirror to the inside of your engine hatch; how did you do it?

First try, I used double sided tape, but that didn't hold up. Second try I used double sided tape along with 4200 and it still didn't hold. The tape and 4200 are sticking to the mirror, but not the hatch. I figured 4200 would hold it forever, but during the first run with it on, if fell off.

Do I need to go up to 5200? I hate that stuff and prefer not to.

Did you clean and sand the hatch?

...but hear from other car and boat sites this adheres well plastic to plastic and plastic to metal:http://www.autozone.com/sealants-glues-adhesives-and-tape/body-trim-adhesive/3m-tube-plastic-emblem-and-trim-adhesive/316901_0_0/?checkfit=true

Good luck, John C

George, I did clean it, but didn't sand it. I'll have to try scuffing it up a bit.

John...thanks. I'll take a look at that stuff.

If you never, ever want to remove it... I hear automotive windshield urethane works well. :)

I gave up the mirror idea and did this. Glad I did.

Nothing is better. Mirrors never look good. Distorted. Flat finish is better. Unless you are opening the hatch to show off the underside of the hatch. If you are showing off what's under the hatch then a flat finished underside is best. Your eyes go directly to the engine.
