Has anyone cut the aluminum pole a few inches to lower the seat? Good idea or bad idea?

my 67 16 had the driver bucket mounted directly to the floor it was a more in the boat feeling it was stationary so if you want to swivel or slide you need to make sure you leave enough room to operate them

I wouldn't do it if you get lively in the chop. Your sciatica will thank you.

I removed the sliders, and mounted my seat directly to the pedestal plate, it lowered the seat at least 2", and they still can swivel. It gives a more stable "in the boat" feeling for sure, I personally like it better.

I cut my seat post about 1.5". There is no negative to doing it. It puts you "in" the boat a bit more.

The guy from Norway did it to get down behind the windshield. His boat runs over 100 mph. I personally like sitting higher as it makes it easier to spot debris and to read the water.
