Hey guess what? At the end of the Weekend at Eufaula my boat picked up an intermittent loss of RPM. I checked the ignition and found that 3 of the plug wires were arcing to the exhaust manifolds! Maybe with these new wires I might see 100mph on my jarmine 5 gsp. :)

Seriously I found 3 bad wires and turns out I had some oddball rotor button as well. I just figured since everything else on the L-29 7.4 was different than all the other years the rotor I had was the right one. Now I know different. But I still want to know what and where the one on my boat came from. Haven’t taken her out since Eufaula but who knows what she will do with a fresh set of ignition parts(cap,rotor, wires,plugs). Anyone at Eufaula knows it was running a little odd especially coming on a plane. Hope its all cleared up.
here are some pics of the wires;

Heres is the rotor button I had on the boat, anyone seen one like this before?

On the right is the correct rotor

My ground wire arced to my starter once this year. Very dangerous. Massive spark. I spent an entire day checking all connections and wrapping wires in that neat casing. Looks great and very safe. Everyone should do this or have it done to be on the safe side.
The boat was dragging to start and now starts like new.

Hello Everyone,

A neat trick I used when I was a mechanic was to run the engine in the dark of night. By this method you will always find any type of arcing no matter how slight.

When ever arcing is suspected in a boat, solve this problem immediately otherwise you run the risk of KA BOOM!

blue-z,
What neat casing are you talking about? Do you have a link?

Greg,
Here are some accessories for the wires. http://www.msdignition.com/1plugacc.htm
Do a Google search for Spark Plug Accessories, you will find all kinds of wraps and coverings.
They have coverings to retard heat, stop chaffing, etc.
