I read on Facebook that Donzi has sold 12 new classics. 10 22s with 430s and 2 18s with 300Mags. Nice. The legend continues.

That's a nice surprise.
Glad to see there's still some demand.
Wonder where they're all headed?

Wonder what will happen to sales now that the introductory pricing is over?

I wish them well.

That's great news for sure. I can't believe they sold these boats at a loss so maybe they have found a price point that all can live with! Didn't they also sell some 38 ZRs?

Have any Fountains been built lately?

I would love to see one and check on the build quality (which is my biggest concern)

What do you think of the tapered waterline stripe?

What do you think of the tapered waterline stripe?

I think they look much better than having same width all the way. Even my 1971 18' came with a tapered stripe.

It's interesting. Am I wrong that what's different is not that it is tapered, but rather that the taper ends before it reaches the bow? Seems to me what we're used to seeing on the Classics is a pair of tapered stripes that meet right at the keel, no?

i think there is an argument to be made, as Bill stated above, that this looks better than a continuous thickness. I'm a bit more neutral, based on the particular boat. Two particular thoughts come to mind:

1. Uniform thickness is better if the stripe edge is along the chine. (The two boats above have the stripe inset slighty above the chine, not along the chine.)

2. If going with a single color below the rubrail (instead of a colored side and white bottom), a stripe usually looks better when it is right along the chine instead of being set off of it.

P.S. Looks like the taper is different in another way. Looks like the bottom edge of the white stripe is brought UP to meet the top edge of the stripe. Where in days past, I think the top edge of the white stripe was brought down to meet the bottom edge of the stripe. Sounds trivial, but the old way, the strip of hullside color between the white stripe and the chine stayed uniform all the way forward, with the bottom edge of the white stripe staying parallel to the chine. This new way, that colored strip gets thicker up near the bow, as the bottom edge of the white stripe turns further from the chine. I like the old geometry better. The new has a funny, moustachey look I can't stop seeing now that I noticed.

I like that yellow. I never liked the older yellow, had too much white in it. This has some orange or red in it. Much bolder. Or, my computer screen is deceiving me.:bonk:

No forward engine scoops. I guess the raised scoop on hatch replaced them. I liked the scoops better.

If they can't find a stainless guy to frame out the windshield, at least darken the glass some.

I do like the tapered stripe though against the solid hull. :)

Greg, I seem to remember that bus paint is called "National School Bus Chrome Yellow".
So, you may be right.

When I bought Imron paint for my engine, I took my hatch to the DuPont Paint store for them to match. Their spectrometer came up with a code for Freightliner Yellow.

School bus yellow is acolor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color) which was especially formulated for use on school buses in North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_buses_in_North_America) in 1939. The color is now officially known in Canada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada) and the U.S. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) as National School Bus Glossy Yellow and was originally called National School Bus Chrome. The pigment used for this color was, for a long time, the lead-containing chrome yellow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrome_yellow).[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_bus_yellow#cite_note-1)
The color was chosen because it attracts attention and is noticed quickly in peripheral vision, faster than any other color. Scientists describe this as follows: "Lateral peripheral vision for detecting yellows is 1.24 times greater than for red."[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_bus_yellow#cite_note-2)
In April 1939, Dr. Frank W. Cyr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_W._Cyr), a professor at Teachers College, Columbia University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teachers_College,_Columbia_University) in New York organized a conference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_conference) that established national school-bus construction standards for the U.S., including the standard color of yellow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow) for the school bus. It became known officially as "National School Bus Chrome". The color was selected because black (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black) lettering on that hue was easiest to see (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_tincture) in the semi-darkness of early morning.
The conference met for seven days and the attendees created a total of 44 standards, including specifications regarding body length, ceiling height and aisle width. Paint experts from DuPont (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuPont) and Pittsburgh Paints (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PPG_Industries) participated. Dr. Cyr's conference, funded by a $5,000 grant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grant_(money))from the Rockefeller Foundation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockefeller_Foundation), was also a landmark event inasmuch as it included transportation officials from each of the then-48 states, as well as specialists from school bus manufacturing and paint companies. The color was adopted by the National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Institute_of_Standards_and_Technology)) as Federal Standard No. 595a (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Standard_595), Color 13432.
The conference approach to school bus safety, as well as the yellow color, have endured into the 21st century. Dr. Cyr became known as the "Father of the Yellow School Bus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_known_as_the_father_or_mother_of_so mething)."

I agree regarding the yellow. And when I painted the 16, you will notice the boot stripe tapers to a point at the bow.

And not that it matters, but the yellow of Ed's 16 is Subaru yellow.

I don't mind the shade of yellow I guess with me it is the amount of yellow, need some more white thrown in. never really a fan of a non white monochromatic boat( entire hull and deck same color) . monochromatic hull white deck with hull color deck stripe is ok though

I'm probably wrong but the Cliff Claven in me says you used Suzuki Lively Yellow when you painted Ed's boat?

I wonder if the orangy yellow that Donzi used on the 2015 22 has ever been used before though the many years. There have always been brighter yellows in many models but I can't remember the school bus orange yellow ever. Maybe someone special ordered the color.

Gregg's is a deeper yellow than my '05.

My 1993 Donzi by Chris Craft is gel on deck stripes and paint on boot stripe. I have a friend that is having a new Formula built now and all the stripes/graphics are being painted with Imron. He has photos of it masked up for paint on his Facebook wall.

Now if it was painterd in Corvette yellow or Mustang Yellow what a hot rod it would be...Ed
P.S. Never noticed the taper, had to check the photos,,,Looks good

I wonder which Imron line Formula is using. Interesting Formula would use it.

That probably depends on whether they're speaking Japanese or (proper) 'English' .. :biggrin.::biggrin.:
