I miss her.

I was thinking today about some of the characters on this site. Cuda Joe. He lost his marbles. Almost 10 years ago, there was a young kid who joined. Don't know where he went or if he ever got his Donzi.

Any other "special" characters you remember?

But, Naughty Shannon, I miss her the most!!!

lol. Hi, Randy. You are one of the first that I met from this forum. Speaking of Cuda, this was my first internet forum that I joined and I didn't know all of the proper etiquette and that this was much like a family where many members know each other. Cuda was a long time member with over 10,000 posts and I picked him as sort of a role model. Well, I screwed the pooch a few times partly because of that and I had some talks on the phone with Scot about it. I pissed him off a couple times but he helped me out. Then it turns out that Cuda has now been banned from every boating forum including this one! He really went off the deep end. Oh, I dropped the F bomb on here and that's when the cuss filter went up. :)
Shannon was here before me so I missed that but I guess she posted lots of pics on lots of forums. Funny. We do need the Donzi Girl section back though! :smileybo:
Remember "Aronow RIP" aka "Sofaking"?

Now that is a weird coincidence. Just today I was thinking the same thing and I wasn't even on line .

An awful lot of folks who were daily posters on here when I first signed up seem to have vanished a long time ago .

Poor ol' Cuda though . He did end up with some legitimate 'health issues' , didn't he ?

HyperDonzi ( hyperboy ) was the youngster.

Michael A was here.

music and guitars ... john santorello ??? he played I think at a hometown gathering back in 02-03... ?

Fella from Arizona that bought the white ( blue stripe ) 28 DONZI Sportsman and then a 30' Formula from Buiz ?

OWEN ( Formula Junior ) but really miss his dog :) even when flying overboard

Forrest and ... Celene.. and Digger and FlyBoy and many others

We all had Donzis in common, but the folks mentioned above were so "over the top".
Whether it was narcissism, alcoholism, or just naivete of forums, they never gave themselves a chance.
Shannon was apparently really proud of her plastic surgery to the point of causing a rebellion.
Maybe if she had just "asked for permission".........
I don't miss her. I don't consider myself prudish, but if you want porn and boats together, there're sites for that.
I never thought this site was that. :garfield:

Cuda was really interesting and entertaining.
He had no filter and a take no prisoners attitude.
Was bad to be on the other side of his arguments.

Miss all those people . . .
New people are stepping in and this forum evolves . . .

Just to add a little to the Cuda story. He was very helpful to a lot of people for a long time, including myself. He lent me a tile saw for a job I was doing. There was a reason he went wayward and got mean and nasty and it had to with health issues (brain related), and some boozing. He really was a good guy.

Well said, Bob. Joe had some serious health issues and I think that misled lots of people about his real personality and good nature. I can understand how people were confused in their perceptions as the symptoms worsened. I miss him too. He was always thoughtful and kind toward me, as well as being very knowledgeable.

How about this from 2001!!!:lookaroun:

I would mount that thing on the deck. Right where the fuel filler goes(Crazy Glue should do it). Then I would get 6" PVC pipe with 90 degree elbows and run them from the under side of the scoop, Down under the deck, Then up through the floor, then back down under the floor behind the front seats, Into the motor compartment, then back up through the deck where the front (stock) vents would mount, Then I would shoot the PVC stright up 10 feet and put some COOL tractor trailer exhaust flappers on the ends (This will keep the water out). Then I would paint the stacks like Candy Cains and wear a ski mask and a Santa Clause outfit with boxer shorts and one of those cat in the hat hats. Then I would put one of those Crash Test Dummies next to me in the seat and dress him up like Bozo the Clown with a a Dolly Parton wig. In the back seat I would chain an Ostrich in and feed him Captin Crunch, But instead of Milk in the bowl I would put BEER and crushed up Tums. The Ostrich would be dyed pink (This way people would think he was a big drunk Flimingo) I would also put one of those fake pile of dog crap (You know...the rubber one that everyone had when they where a kid)and Screw it down where the Bow light would be. This way it would light up and looked like a Nucular pile of Crap when I turned the Lights on. I would also add a dish that I could fill with jelly beans next to the shifter. I would then make all the gauges out of silly puddy with news paper cartoons on them. Then I would rip the carpet out and redo it with the FUN FUR ( you know... that stuff that everyone glued to the dash board of the old vans). I would also bolt bird feeders on the transom(this way I would always have company following me). Then I would plant beans in the center storage compartment so I would be able to make bean soup when I get hungry. Then I would Pin stripe the living crap out of my boat with crazy string and drive around all day making funny fart faces.

My 2 Cents!

Scott, Lenny, George, Bob, Randy, I just happened to stick my head in for the first time in years to see what's been going on and the first thing I see it this thread. Imagine! There were a lot of great and fun people here from the past generation that I now truly miss. We had some really great times right here on the board, and at the events - whether fully organized or thrown together with about a week's notice. You could always learn something from everyone here whether it was to foam or not-to-foam-in your fuel tank or a maybe a hot tech tip like to use Crazy-Glue when attaching a 6" PVC pipe to an upside-down scoop . . . (that's and all-time great post!) But moreover, I' glad to see much of the "Old Timers" are still here to help pave the way for the new guys.

So, with that, speaking of just one of the great Donzi people from the past to remember, and that is Mr. Big Grizzly himself, Randy Carabelli. He contributed so much and will be always missed.

Now, I have some catch-up reading to do.

Guys,
Yes there was some amazing people who have been on the board. Its a shame things have changed and a lot of us went different ways. I miss seeing others projects and pictures of their progress. I use to love seeing the great innovated ways to lift decks off! Geoo and all his 6X6 posts in his garage!

Helping others with their projects! When we all went up to Matty's and worked on replacing his fuel tank...a small projects turned into a 2 week demo!

I'm still into doing my Donzi projects but don't post much anymore since there seems there is not much interest in these restorations like there use to be.

Kind of wish it was 2001 again!:)

...I'm still into doing my Donzi projects but don't post much anymore since there seems there is not much interest in these restorations like there use to be....

I love to see ALL the projects that people will post. The tried and true methods of some activities are re-enforced while there are also new ways of attacking or working around a problem. I love to see hardware or material choices and learn the reasons why they are chosen. Project threads like Georges give me motivation for my own project (while setting the bar really high) and others that might not be my cup of tea certainly inspire other designs or at least inspire innovative thinking on how I will handle the issue when faced with it.

As a regular poster, and relative newcomer to this community (over 3 years) I have not met many in person yet, I have purchased 2 boats (and lots of parts) from members, had some lengthy conversations, learned much about these boats technically, contributed different points of view and generally shared my enthusiasm and research for that which many here know so well while bringing context from another corner of the hobby (woodyboats). After all this, I know I am still on the outside looking in. This will probably last until I finish my project and get her wet at a Donzi event. (I can live with that)

In the mean time... throw those posts and pictures up there. I'm sure the "core" guys still love to see others work and the rest of us are still taking it all in! It's all good.

Lucky for me, Naughty Shannon was long gone before I discovered this forum.

But I've seen plenty of members come and go too. Which is probably normal over 8-10 years. What keeps so many of us coming back is the passion for the boats, the camaraderie and kinship most of us share. And, of course, the occasional "character" who is the straw that stirs the drink.

I love seeing pictures of Donzi (and other cool) restorations and I have a ton of admiration for people who undertake these projects.
However I don't have much interest in seeing Naughty Shannon "under restoration" :bonk:

With all the ownership changes and what do you feel like today, construction methods,
there don't seem to be two Donzis built the same way?

Each one is different in some way.

After just a quick search of Google, Shannon seems to have disappeared from the net.
Maybe some of her "mods" she was so proud of failed, or she had a change of heart.
During that time, the top item in a search resulted in a large format, high definition photo
of all her assets, all in one frame!!!!!
I won't say any more as that's not my cup of tea.

Some of the names I recognize as being active when I first joined up. Maybe posts like these will bring more folks back to the conversation.

I cannot help but wonder if other forms of social media have forever changed the boards. Several that I actively participated in a few years ago are just a memory now. I sold my Donzi but I still have enough interest in what and how you folks are doing to check in every now and then.

Has always been a wealth of information and help given. It indeed is a unique place. Characters and all.

Scott....I love seeing all the projects. I don't comment much on anyone's project because I usually don't have much I can contribute...............but I follow them all. I think most people do.

George....I'm with you. Don't need another boat site that features naked women. Plenty of others for that. Not a prude either, but it's uncomfortable trying to explain to your kid why there are naked girls on the site I'm looking at. :boggled:

When I first joined Cuda was very helpful and there was definitely a good size core group of people that seemed to very close. The longer I stay on this site, the fewer there seem to be.

Great boat name!!!

NS needed a complete undercarriage overhaul. Her gunwales were weak and flopping and I'm guessing her stringers were stretched beyond capacity. Exposure to chlorine water made it worse. One would have to completely rebuild her hull and attempt to return all of her parts to the proper stock location, if even possible. Even 10 years ago, she was looking mighty worn out!

Honestly, it would make George Carter's restoration look like a stroll in the park!

Now why did that post bring the following to mind ?

There were twin brothers by the name of Jones, one was
married and the other one was single. It happened that John's
wife died the same day that Joe's boat sank. A few days later a
kindly old lady met Joe on the street, and mistaking him for John
said " Oh, Mr. Jones, I was so sorry to hear of your great loss,
you must feel terrible. John replied, "Well I am not a bit
sorry. She was a rotten old thing from the start to the finish.
Her bottom was all chewed up, and she smelled of fish from the
time that I got her. She made water faster than anything. She
had a bad crack and a hole in the front--the hole got larger
every time I used her and she leaked like everything; but here is
what happened."
Four guys asked if they could rent her for the night. I
warned them that she wasn't so hot but they said they would have
a go at her anyhow. The result was that the fools tried to get
into her all at once and it was too much for her and she split
right up the middle. Before Joe could say another word about his
boat, the old lady fainted on the spot.
