Owner lives here on the East Coast. All coring , stringers and transom have been replaced...everything. It will have a 3.0..... Should be an amazing example of a correct baby. Tons of NOS stuff was found and will be used.

I believe its hull #3 or 4, I could ask my buddy who use to own it. I drove this boat for many years, what a blast it was to ride in. The glass work was done right down the street from where I live.

----If this is Dans boat, I rode in it back about 8 or 10 years ago and it seemed very solid. That was about a year or two before he sold it to a really nice guy on the west coast of Florida. Now Dan has a beautiful 27 Magnum Sport, and I believe he still has his crackerbox. Cant remember his name but I believe he also had 2 unrestored El Pescadors and a couple of other go fasts too. Resto is beautiful, as usual, Scott!.......Bill S

Looking closer, I see a Connecticut sticker on the transom so it's defiantly not Dan's boat. You think this may be the one that was in the garage in NJ that was crushed??

no ,,

plus that story was never confirmed.

when did they make the lounge seating baby?????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????????

Greg,
I grew up in West Hartford, CT. I was good friends with the original owner who had a cottage down on Niantic Bay. We used the boat primarily on the CT River and Niantic bay area with some trips out in the sound on calmer days. The last engine in the boat was a 470, 4cyl with 170 hp, boat ran about 55 but its the handling that makes these boats so fun to drive. I have never been in a boat that you can turn the wheel so hard and it felt like it was on rails, never skipped or jumped. The boat looks beautiful, I didn't get a chance to go down and see it in person but my buddy stopped in occasionally to watch the progress. I believe the place that did the glass work has another baby 14 they will eventually be restoring. Good luck to the owner, Jim

The other Baby 14 is mine that Tom is doing all the structural work on. The 14 is really a Cigarette that Don Aronow took with him when he sold DONZI and Magnum. It's was rigged and titled at the Cigarette factory. I hope to have both 14's done over the winter.

Correct me if I am wrong but Brownie told me the Baby is a 1/2 scale 28 Sportsman bottom which is 24 degrees. Don's plan was to race this little boat in the Miami to Nassau race and make the smallest boat record. That came right from Brownie.

Bert

I am sure that was the plan and the 14 was marketed as a 28 offspring . We Know Don had a thing for the 14 as it made it's way around 188th st with him, but look at the boats the 28 and the 19 have more in common , wide beam , round nose, rounded bottoms, short inner strakes , character line.

the 14 and the barrelback have more in common both have narrower beam , the rounded rear deck transom lines , true deep vee sharp keel, inner strakes that come all the way to the transom.

the 14 doesn't have the the pointy nose of the 18

a half scale 28 would be a LOA 14 feet on a 5 foot beam the 14 is LOA 14 feet 5 inches 6 feet 3 inches beam I am far from a naval engineer but a 24 degree sharp vee 5 feet wide would be more than a handful.

the color was called Lucan red

Is the correct interior for the Baby 2-piece (Bench, Seatback) or 3-piece (Bench, 2 component seat backs).

Mine had a 2-piece, but it was not original. Any help is appreciated.

14B-6, yes, they are everywhere

most of the 14 babies and the Cigarette 14 are accounted for but one of the rarest Donzi Classics of ALL TIME is still not accounted for

not the Criterion II

not the 427 side oiler Benchseat or barrelback or the 18 OB

it would would be the twin hatch Left hand helm baby 14

I know to each their own but whom ever did that boat they ruined it in my opinion. There is nothing remotely nice about that look at all. Everything that gives these classic boats that classic look is gone. :bonk:

Bert
the boat I am referring to is the boat seen in the baby Flyer and is a Donzi built in the 60's volvo powered.

the coca cola boat is a cigarette??? what is the HIN ??????? a lot of work has been done to it is the helm position original or is modified

mattyboy
06-16-2015, 12:39 PM
It doesn't matter anymore what it looked like. I would take it if I found it. Put it back to original.
That boat was stolen in May of 09 in Miami never to be found. The owner then committed suicide (not because his Baby was stolen). This was a Baby Cigarette, one of three. But I believe only two had CRT HIN numbers.

Here is a direct quote from the builder whom worked at Cigarette (not Byng Goode)

This is the boat I built at cigarette for Aronow, there was only one , we sold it to Irwin Feiner (deceased)and shipped it to New York , Billy Horn (deceased) contacted me in 04 to rebuild the boat and sent it from Freeport , New York to me to rebuild I finished the project in 05 and shipped it to Miami where he was living, The boat was stolen in may of 09 and I was contacted by several law enforcement agency's and insurance company investigators. That is all I know and remember.

So, keep your eyes out for the hull. My guess was that they were afrer the drive and engine. It was not a 4 cylinder.

pretty vague info besides the names . would need to confirm original setup and original build dates

Pearson's cig 14 has no imprinted hull or affixed HIN badge it was given a valid Cigarette racing team HIN on it's title when it was sold sometime in 1977. The reason for this was the boat was popped from the mould at Donzi around 1967 5 years before the term and the practice of HINs were mandated by the USCG. your boat was popped a year later in 1978 and had a HIN embredded in the transom if this boat was built at cigarette in that time frame it should have a HIN.

that cig doesn't have a split hatch and has so much resto/mod work done to it it would be hard to tell if that helm location is original what was the engine drive combo if it wasn't a 4 cyl and an alpha??

mattyboy
06-16-2015, 01:14 PM
No Baby Cigarettes had a split hatch, in fact, there were very few with a split hatch. The split hatch boats had Mercruiser Renault engines and when the Chevy based mercruisers came along they had to re design the hatches because the split hatches would not close with the new engines installed. Hence the fax scoop and one piece hatch. The flame arrester is sitting in that scoop.

Bert

I am confused which is not surprising when you post . If the cigarettes didn't have split hatches why bring them into the conversation?

You quoted my post mentioning the very rare split hatch left hand helm baby Donzi so what does a cigarette have to do with it?

the split hatches were not all renault's they had them on an omc and a volvo powered boats as well again see the pic I posted from the flyer .

Bending and massaging these brand new bronze cast emblems before they get chromed. With the contour on the hull sides rounded the why it is these emblems need to be curved to fit the hull properly and then chromed. I still need to drill and counter sink mounting screw holes.

---- Jim,,,Brian, Dauley, me and many others were taken to the cleaners by a husband and wife scam team, by the name of Majewski. I was lucky they only nicked me for around 6 grand as others in this sad tale lost millions. The male part of the team died in the clink, good riddance!!!! His wife was skulking around Canada after she got out the last I heard. I believe Brian got bitten pretty good as well. He delivered a benchseat V-drive Hornet to them to be restored. They promptly stripped it of every part and rolled it outside where it resided until they went down and finally Brian got the hull and deck back. All the parts went missing. I actually managed to get a trailer from another of Brian's boats they stole from Brian back for him. There were actually people who killed themselves over their losses due to these skum sucking a::h::::!!!!.......Bill S
