I'm baaaaaack...
It's time to liven up the bottom end of this 289 ant top it off with 16:1 compression and a little 500 shot of nitrous. Do ya think my stock drive will handle it? :bonk:

Okay.... Lets go back to reality.
I decided to go conservative on the build since I'm keeping the out drive stock. I should make "just a little" more power but I was more concerned with making the bottom end bulletproof and efficient.
I found a nice, inexpensive oil pan that will hold 2 extra quarts and has a baffle to keep the slosh down on launch. This new pan should work nicely and looks good too!

I had a local performance shop that specializes in Ford racing engines prep the block for me. I had it bored 30 over, line honed, rod ends resized and balanced as well as new pistons pressed in.
These pistons, in combination with my 54cc heads should yeald a little over 9.5:1 compression.

Here's dad installing the aftermarket cam that was in the engine when I got it. I'll be measuring the lift and duration before I finish it off.

Hey Look! A windage tray! Since this engine sees 6K RPM for hours on end, I figured this would be a worth while investment. For those of you who don't know what a windage tray does, it keeps the tornado of oil flying around in your crankcase to a minimum thus keeps the slosh of oil from robbing horsepower.

The heads had some minor porting work and resurfacing but the valves received the royal treatment with a very nice performance grind.

Thanks! Yeah, I use forums a lot to learn so I like to give back especially when it's a fun project.

Did I forget to mention my new 400 gallon fuel tank?
No... I guess I mean more of a "cumulative" thing being out on the lake all day. A few days are putt-putt but most of the fun lives at WOT.
In other news UPS stopped by today with some new toys...

Also, forgot to mention I installed a high volume oil pump and added ARP's industrial strength oil pump drive shaft. I think it was a wise investment for a little extra piece of mind.
This thing is BEEFY!

+1
Great thread(s) and pictures. I learn a ton from this stuff and I'm always amazed when DIYers (no offense intended!) turn out such top quality stuff.
Makes me think I should try to do more than just check the oil!
Nah.....
