Hey Craig,

I have all of our property and vehicle insurance(except my street rod) with Co-operators. I approached them about coverage on my 22C(454-385 HP) but they weren't interested. My Co-operators agent then set me up with Lloyds of London. I think the premium is about $600-$700/ year for standard coverage. The company that covers my street rod wanted approx. $1000.

Hagarty had a booth at the Antique Boat Show in Gravenhurst last year but they won't underwrite a Donzi.

Good Luck

Dave

My mahogany 1972 Greavette is insured through Robertson & Robertson Yacht Insurance brokers out of Markham. The actual insurance is with CG&B (Northbridge General) Insurance Co. I met Andrew Robertson ( 905 752-8735) several years ago at the ACBS Gravenhurst boat show.

We have an agreed value of 50K, and I pay about $ 360.00 yr. When I upgraded my engine last year I showed them the costs and we adjusted the value accordingly and without fuss.

I have also spoken to Carla at Haggerty about my '72 Greavette and my '65 Donzi... She said they would be happy to quote on my classic boats. I'm not due till August.

Carla at Haggerty was happy to insure my '67 Ski Sporter and gave me a great price.

My sense is they would quote a newer, faster boat but the quote would reflect the performance.

I'll give her first shot on my '04 18 in a few weeks and will report back .

The Lake George Donzi Classic Club has been working with Carla and Haggerty to offer insurance to the Donzi Classic owners . We are tweaking the offerings to meet most classics. We have gotten some feedback and Haggerty is willing to work with us, If anyone contacts them make sure to tell them you're a LGDCC for the best possible pricing.

to get a quote use the URL on our website www.lgdonziclassic.com (http://www.lgdonziclassic.com)

it is down towards the bottom of our main page a red 22 with the Haggerty logo

How are they reacting to boats that can do 70 and above and state such?

There's basically only 2 players in the under 26' over 500HP, 75 mph club here in the US and that's Markel and Foremost goodluck, I have Markel with stated value.

My 75 Ski Sporter is insured through Hagerty in Ontario I think they offload to AVIVA. My other insurance is through AVIVA but they want twice the price of Hagerty Go figure

I'm in Ontario & "Premier Marine" through an insurance broker insures both my boats

Offhand if I remember correctly my donzi insures for around 400$ and my tiara is around 600$

This is good feedback. I assumed that once you were openly disclosing speeds above 70mph the options for insurance would get a lot smaller. I did not realize that 75mph was actually the cutoff.

I asked for a quote for my 16 after it was posted the the Lake George Classic group had been working with Carla at Haggerty. She told me they couldn't quote it because it ran over 60. She said they were looking at coverage for the higher performance boats, but at the time their coverage was for the classics.

we are tweaking the coverage as I said, to reflect more standard( real world) performance specs of the donzi classics. We are also trying to get a baseline for value of the classics as well. We are working on it now with specific Haggerty staff that will be Donzi subject matter specialists .We should have something put together shortly.

I use Hagerty for all three Donzis with a stated value for the boats. Carla is great, and the price is quite reasonable. My boats are relatively mild in HP compared to what you are spec-ing though.

I think your HP rating and related speed #s will really narrow down affordable options in Ontario. High HP scares insurance companies.

I just received a very good quote from Jennifer at Hagerty on my 2004 '18.

I would urge anyone with a newer and/or faster Donzi to give her a call.

Maybe Hagerty is ok with insuring 75mph and faster Donzi's provided they are US only and not Canada? If that is the case that's a great option to check out given they will already do stated value.

Greg - I think they are happy to quote both US and Canadian boats.

A few obvious caveats:

If you have good credit, a good driving record, a good boating record, a safe boating license/certificate, years of experience and an unmodified boat (I meet all these), your rate will be favorably impacted.

I represented that the 18 will be a 65 MPH boat. They will insure faster boats, but expect to pay accordingly (duh).

I would love to use them. The only carrier that I could find to give me a quote was Progressive. The ownership of Progressive funds a lot of things that I am 100% against, so I hate spending money with them so they can strip away my rights.

Greg, it's more of 4 things that they look at,
Size/speed/HP and the maxium HP the builder put into it when it left the factory, more of formula, my next door neighbor is a insurance broker. Any of the "stock" Donzi classics with stock power should be easily insured, it's when you throw more power in them account their small length it becomes a problem cause that makes them think they will run over 75 lol.

It's interesting that I contacted CG&B for a quote on my 75 Ski Sporter. The quote they sent was about 200 higher than through Hagerty and they said that due to the age of the boat, they could not insure for an agreed value but only a depreciating value. Also, they were off loading the insurance to AVIVA, the same company Hagerty uses for AGREED VALUE insurance. No wonder most people consider Insurance Companies Thieves.
