There is a very rare 2006 Volvo V70R Wagon that is for sale.

It's not mine but I almost bought it before I found my 2007 late last year. I've had two of these V70 R's and I was highly suspect at first, having never owned a Volvo as a big car guy over the years. Tried 'em all, but never a Volvo. I had to buy my 2006 out of Seattle and then my 2007 was a little closer in Maine. The 2004s and 2005s had a weak 5spd tranny versus the new 6spd in the '06 and '07. These are really versatile rides with a 300hp/300tq Turbo 5, AWD, and Brembo's at all four corners plus very safe for the family. I have mine with the factory tow kit that is rated for 3,600lbs. At 75mph on cruise you get 29-31mpg, then when needed tow the Donzi to the ramp. You can also find the 3rd row fold flat rear facing seat which I have so you can seat 7 peeps if needed. PM me if you are interested, I don't have any affiliation with the guy selling but did a lot of spade work when I was getting ready to buy it so have a bunch of info. We could not agree on a price against his ask of $18,000. Close but no cigar so I bought the 2007 R instead.

I think the guy is a bit high unless he has super low miles, I found a couple just over 60K for 13-14,000. A bud had one it is everything you say a great car.

MOP, are they '06 or '07s? The 04's and 05's trade at a much lower price because of the different tranny. Volvo had to upgrade the trans because the 5 speed was not handling the torque so well. If you go stick then there's no issue. They made the "R" series for 4 years only. This guy has exceptional maint records with an open wallet. I wanted to give him $15k but he said he wanted to wait it out and I then I found the '07 and grabbed it. The other thing is he just re-did all 4C's which is an expensive job called for at 75,000 miles. You can also re-flash the ECU and gain 35hp from IPD which I have to get around to.

I have been watching this car. It's very tough to sell a Volvo high performance AWD wagon in sunny Florida. I'm tempted to buy it even though I already have one. I like black that much. Here is the new Craigs ad .........

http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/4350724796.html

The gent who owns it has sorted everything out, and I mean everything. He just put 4 new struts on the car and they are very pricey as the R's have 3 suspension settings. With that expense of $1,500 he's now down to $15k and dropping regardless of his ad's asking price. I called my dealer and they said they would give him high 12s for it sight unseen. It should really go to a good end user home at a price well below $15k. I'd loose the roof crossbar carriers as shown in the picture below

He's done a bunch of tasteful upgrades over the time he's owned the car. These "R" wagons are 300hp/300tq from the factory and he has the IPD upgrade that adds 25hp and 27tq (dyno tested) to give the car a little more grunt. When I spoke with him, he said he was pleasantly surprised that the mpg actually got a bit BETTER after he did the upgrade! I turned him onto where he could buy a matching used 3rd row seat as he's always fiddling around with upgrades. I don't believe he grabbed it though :garfield:

There are almost no non SUVs left that can seat 7 people and still haul azz. The only thing that comes to mind is the 2005 Mercedes E500 I believe. There is nothing new available anymore which is a real shame.

This car would make a cool low cost tow vehicle for a Donzi 16 owner and then put Hakkas on it for Winter fun .........

.
Couple of years later and here is a 2007 V70 "R" Wagon for sale. I have a 2007 currently and had a 2006 before that. Both my R's have been amazing sleepers and I've had a lot of performance cars over the years. It looks like it has every option available except the 3rd row fold flat seat. Finding a low mileage mint 2007 is impossible.......... Someone should buy this one.

This was my 1972 911S... This was a special car with factory mechanical injection, German gauges, English left door interior trim, sport seats, SC trailing arms, 930 torsion bars, alloy cross member, Boxter brakes, 7&8 16" Fuchs (with Bridgestone S-02s) and a factory stainless muffler grille/skirt.

This picture was taken at a PCA track day event (the worst events) at Mosport Park. I never raced any of my Porsches but, I had quite a few of them. (69 911S [RS replica w/3.6l], 70 911E targa, 72 914/6, 87 944 N/A, 89 951S...)

No more Porsches for me :)... but, I too have a Volvo!

Very nice 964 Bert. Yes, mine was a 993 Twin Turbo. Last of the air cooled as you know. Black on Black, full carbon kit and wheel crests. When our oldest was accepted at NYU and did two years abroad I decided the University "deserved" the money more than I did so I sold it last year. The turbo was one of the best all around sports cars I have owned and rear jumper seats to boot. That said, I can seriously say that I was shocked at how much performance the V70 "R" Wagon provides for short money. I also can say that NEVER did I expect to own a Volvo. The R models converted me. Bought my '06 in Seattle and the '07 in Maine, both over the phone. I need to get around to messing with the ECU next year if the boating weather ever ends here and I put The Mule away. The Volvo R is 300/290 stock and a very mild chipset brings it to 330/330 on 91 Octane. Need to put that on the to-do list.

That E55 is a nice sleeper package. Does that wagon still provide the fold flat hidden 3rd row seat? I also had a 1994 E500 and earlier, when just out of College a 190-16 Valve which had the Cosworth. The 1994 E500 was what led Mercedes Benz to formalize there relationship with AMG and the rest is history.

Was that a 4 litre Asia spec V8? It looks like my Black Pearl color but it might also be 040 Black.

Yes, it is a Japanese spec 4.2l V8 producing 285 hp. The Mercedes paint colour is code 904, Dark Blue. This is quite a rare car, actually.

----I bought a 2004 E500 "Sport" wagon two years ago. Found it on E-bay in Dallas. Kind of one step down from an E55. Had an $80,000 original sticker. I paid $14,000 with 70,000 original miles. Best road car I have ever had, hands down. Just so comfortable, and speedy enough for me. Would have loved an E55 or 63 but the added jingle didn't add up for me.......Bill S
