Please be SPECIFIC
list the SPEED,engine, cam, intake, carbureator, ignition, distributor, coil, headers and outdrive
list if you have trim and tilt also
oh and in case you forgot, the model of your boat.List any upgrades you would like to do after you have listed whats your set up is.
here is mine:
model: 1971 H/m donzi classic (like you couldnt figure that out)
Drive: vovlvo penta 250 :(
color: hmmm????
engine: Ford 351w (brand new)
cam: Lunati custom grinded 00110 1000-5000 rpm
carb:750 cfm edelbrock performer leaned out- but not enough( what do you want I only have 13 hrs on the engine)
Ignition: MSD 6t race ignition
distributor: MSD billet distributor
Coil: accel super coil ( I have a jacobs but it keeps arcing)

speed: a mildly mannered 45nmh (55-56mph) on regular unleaded

what I want to upgrade:
closed cooling system
NEW DRIVE(havent decided yet either a blackhawk or a sx)
roller rocker conversion kit(for more rpms)
for all you 351w owners out there, they make a roller rocker conversion kit for $120 for the 351w (instead of $350 for rockers)its in jegs catalogue, they only make it for fords.

thats all I want
that and at least 60-70mph out of it.
maybe way later on ill buy a turbo for it :)

the reason I posted this topic is so we can see different setups and maybe change our setup to something different.
let the shop talk talk on!!!! :D

1966 18 2+3 VEE drive, 427 Side oiler Ford. I recently bought it from an old man . He had it 25 yrs. and it has been 20 yrs. since it has been in the water. Fortunately he did an OK job of storing it. I hope to get it running before Labor day. By the way this is a great topic and I hope more people join in, Kurt.

Broque, That Lutany is not a good setup. our 16 with a 302 and a 250 drive runs 55->58 MPH with the alumunum volvo prop pitched to 22. In the past the I have found Lutani has bad ramps for the flat tappits. The windsor runs really goog with the Crane Like Forest uses or the Babe Erson MAX 108 series. The Rocker conversion won't give you 1 more rpm, however it will prolonge your valve guide and valve stem life. This is why I use them->DURABILITY!!!!!

oh great, whats wrong with the ramps for the flat tappets?
it seems to run fine, did you look at the specs on lunatis site?
that particular cam is VERY VERY popular.
it was actually sold out when I bought it but the guy at lunati made me a custom grinded one for the same price of a stamped one(custom grinds are like $250-$500)
plus the engine is still under waranty with this cam(the engine company took the stock cam out and put that cam in it and kept the waranty on the engine)-so I am not changin the cam
I too have an aluminum volvo prop, I dont know what pitch how can I find out?. and the boat runs 44.3 nmh (50 mph)gps speed
I am going to test the boat with the 600 cfm again, I am not sure if the gps said 39 nmh or 49 nmh if it said 49 then I am going to sell the 750 and get a 600cfm. we shall see.

Thr accelleratio ramps are too steep, the give the impression of power that is not really there. their really bad onrd are the roller set for the same reasion. Some profile s actually skidd the rollers. If you had a chevy with the smaller lifters you mit have a problen, but you have a Ford with bigger lifter dianeter. I just think your boat should be faster.

I think my boat should be faster too.
how can I tell t pitch of my prop? maybe that is why.
I still havent tried the 600cfm again, I have to get it from my freind and re test.
I am really not sure if the gps said 39nmh or 49 nmh, it might have said 49nmh because when i testes with it I was pissed that it didnt get up into the 50's. we shall see

big grizzly, that cam seems nice for my boat, once I put the 600cfm on we will know for sure if it is a bad cam, remmeber I dont have any trim at ALL.
would you hapen to know the specs of that 16ft with the 302 (cam specs?)
let me know

Ok,
here are the readings:

600cfm edelbrock carb: 43.1 nmh GPS
(49.565 mph)-with me and a freind (165 pds each)
750 cfm edelbrock carb: 44.1 nmh GPS
(50.715 mph)-with just me (165 pds)

I'm thinking that it may be faster with the 600 cfm, I havent ran it with just me in it.

do any of you think that a 650cfm might be faster than both the 600 and 750?
obviously the 750 is a little overkill, unless 1 mph is a big thing then I am going to sell my 750 cfm and get a 650cfm.
big griz i know you said my boat should be going like 56-58, but Ihave a felling that the prop is a little too torquey? it has plenty of power left so I could probably change the pitch at least 4 pitches??????
Im not sure
how bout some HELP?
hmm maybe someone can bring some props to the waters edge next weekend and we can est different props???- me goes to post in the club meeting topic!
