Carb linkage help needed

I know this set up won't fit under my hatch w/the 2" spacer....but it's my intention to use it eventually. I have another hatch w/the makings of a scoop in it.......... But for now, I'll use a standard Holley 1/2" spacer.
But my question is this. What hardware do I need to attach the Merc throttle cable to the carb throttle linkage (see the fuzzy picture of the engine port side). Changing to another type of cable at this point in time would be the wrong answer.
Photos and hardware descriptions would be helpful.

But isn't that designed for standard Morse ends (like on my tab indicator cables)?
I think I have a clasp, but there doesn't seem to be a way to attach it to this cable?????

Yes, and I have a similar bracket too. But this is all Merc stuff that went on the throttle when the deck was still off.
I'm hoping there's a similar bracket that accepts the merc swivel thingie????

I'm pretty sure there is a slot in the cable housing under the swivel thingy which is a better mounting system I think.

although your cable jacket looks different from what I remember... but I had one of those swivel mounts and went to the clasp.

Yes Ed, something similar to that I think would work.
I did find the "REAL" pieces on the BAM site under old high performance outdrive engine parts.
There seems to be only a few pieces that would be harder to find....a couple of studs and two spacers. I can order them on Monday...

Holley has the studs and bushings for the throttle arm, very common... check their online catalog for part numbers

Sounds like you got it covered :biggrin: A couple of double sided shoulder bolt some washers and nylocknuts for the throttle plate and swivel . One to two brackets for the swivel and the return spring.:lightning I'll bet your local Merc parts dealer has all that stuff in stock :wink:

if you can find an OMC cable bracket for a 454 Holley/Qjet carb application, that cable will slide right on and lock.... might be tough to find though..

I used one of these: Hardin Marine throttle cable bracket (http://www.cpperformance.com/p-341-stainless-steel-throttle-cable-bracket-for-holley-sea-demon-carburetors.aspx) and some odds-and-ends from the parts box to adapt the Merc cable to the carb. I intended to use a really trick heim joint setup but it wouldn't work with the stock cable end and I didn't feel like rigging an entirely new throttle cable.

You can see the bracket and most of the linkage on this pic. I used the stock Merc barrel to anchor the cable to the back of the bracket (with a thru-bolt). It can be done with Mercruiser brackets as well, which is a sturdy but inelegant (kinda ugly) solution.

The Hardin bracket is very solid and avoids the extra gasket sandwich required with the under-carb plates.

I have the same bracket (red, but it'll have to be re-painted), and a lot of the other parts....
The problem started when I didn't pay that much attention to the cable I had purchased. I think I simply duplicated what had been in the boat previously. I installed the cable to the throttle a couple of years ago when the deck was still off the hull. I wouldn't relish changing the cable at this point. I've been in enough contortions all ready!! :bawling:
So, I'll be using the bracket and the Holley parts I just purchased from amazon. I still can't get over that you can buy engine parts from Amazon!

OK, so I sorted out the linkage problems, installed the distributor, and finished off a set of plug wires......
Simultaneously, I ordered a K&N spark arrestor for an HP-500.....the on line catalog showed a picture (actually the same picture published for a small block (350) and a height of 5". I think I could live w/5". The reality is the element is 5", w/a total height of nearly 7"!!!!:frown: If you take a look at the picture, you'll see the problem.
Anyone have any suggestions other than exchanging the element meant for a SBC?

Maybe the 3" height would work.....it's 5" larger in diameter, much lower height but I'll lose about 10"/sq of element area. That's probably not a big price to pay.
Final question.....is the 5-1/8" diameter correct for a Holley 4150?

Gotta watch the throttle cable with a wider base air cleaner. Some fit, some don't. Your cable looks low enough. 5 1/8 is 4150/4160 size
