I am finally getting toward the end of a very long project and would like your thoughts as to outdrive ratios. I am putting together a 95 22 classic, just purchased a 496 that dynoed at 505 hp...bravo 1 currently has 1.50 ratio but I have seen some postings that with the larger engine I might be better off changing? Your thoughts please?

if you run it easy you will have no problems. if you run it hard and in big seas it will blow.

So the biggest issue is you... if you really want to run the hell out of it it won't last but if you are smart about it you will likely never have a problem.

Typically that statement is towards Alpha drive to help with longevity. If you went 1:36 you can use smaller pitch props, or get a little more out of max pitched Mercury props.:propeller:

Ditto the above, plus, if you did make a swap, you could go to an X at least, or an XR, regardless of ratio.

+2 1:36 is a bit stronger and gives a better prop selection, but again when it gets rough pull back a bit none like too much air.

the prop selection thing is kinda moot at this power range. boat likely needs a 27 mirage plus or bravo 1 in a different pitch. bravo 1 is available to what, 36 inch ? I think M+ is available to 29 inch plus you can work another inch into it if need be.

505 HP on a stock B1 isn't going to run a 36p:biggrin: . I think the Mirage's top out at 27P. With the price of props it's far from moot:tooth:

I have a bud that has run a 29' Fountain for 12+ years with a stock 1.5 B1 hooked to a 525SC. His upper finally went this year. You should be fine if you don't beat on it every time out.
