I keep my boat in Chester, about 10 miles north of the mouth of the river, and about 10 miles south of Haddam Island, where most launch for the run. I'm the guy with the big grin...

Pat, last couple of yrs we have been using a ramp @ a marina around Middletown. Not sure where we are putting in this yr. I will look for you. :crossfing: Hoping for a sunny day......:wink:.

Mike, were you there in your 18C? If so I guess there were 4 Donzis. I was on the south end of the beach. I'm the 22C in the background of the vid you posted at 4:48. I had started towing the broken 21 Super until his buds showed up.

I was getting fuel on the way down. Didnt see you after that.

Hey Mike O. I see you've run the CT River before. How much of the river is navigable? Are there places to stop for food and fuel? I was thinking perhaps a meet in the Spring for the east coasters in honor of Scot.

Hi John, The river is navigable, they barge # 2 fuel (?) to at least Hartford. 40- 50 (?) so miles down to the I95 bridge Haven't been above the city by boat. Lot's of Marina's full of big cruisers down the lower 1/2, that go out in the ocean. Lyme, Old Saybrook Essex, lots of history, pretty up scale neighborhoods. Its all ways fun to go exploring. :cool: Good excuse NOT to pickle early, living in the Lakes Region, foot hills of White Mts of NH. Should have something :yes: some where for sure, for Scot :salute: Hope you are well, fun running with ya......:)

I've been boating on the CT River and LI sound for most of my 46 years. Happy to play tour guide from Haddam Island south to Old Saybrook and the LI Sound. Best part about the CT River is that there is no industry to speak of so the water is relatively clean. The channel is narrow and not vary deep so there are not many, if any, barges traveling the river these days...:shades:

This is something to keep in mind when I wake up my baby in the Spring. I'll need to find a launch ramp I can get to from PA without going thru NYC or I-95.

rt 84 into the hartford/glastonbury area ,launch on the river then head south, or rt 84 to rt91 south to the sound in new haven or east heaven or on rt 95 over to old saybrook. there may be local routes like rt 9 but not sure if they are trailer friendly.

Patrick, how far north from the Sound is the CT River navigable? I'm getting anxious for Spring already :). I don't do salt water so I'll probably find a ramp in the sweet water area only.

You can travel from the mouth of the CT north to just above Hartford. In my opinion, the best stretch is from the mouth to Haddam. From Chester (13-14 miles up) north is fresh water for the most part.
