A few years ago there was a 16 for sale here in St Augustine with a 4 cylinder diesel for sale. He wanted 12K. He had it on the street and didn't advertise it. Didn't sell. Always wondered where it is now. Said it would do 40 all week end long for $10.00. It was a factory installation.

60.01 and they claim itll go 2x as far as a BBC on the same size tank. Also it can go longer between maintenance.

It would be a great tender for a mega yacht. Diesel can be hard to find on some lakes, but as a tender, you wouldnt need to worry about that.

Ill keep my gas motor. Unless.........

Electric and LIPO batteries??????????

I'm willing to bet that diesel motor can produce much more with a ecu reprogram for more boost and if you want even more a larger turbo. just look at all the trucks that run 10's in the 1/4 mile. I think it will definately need a 1:36 gear ratio because of the lack of higher rpm though. I mean look at the pitch blade its running it says 27" did they mean 27 pitch. if so thats a lot.

Also, you can always upload the original program in case of a waranty issue or to be even safer incase of tamper evidence within the ecu you can just buy a separate ecu that is modified... I use to do it with my audi when i had todo waranty service.

the numbers they posted in the specs section don't jive

23 pitch mirage
4000 rpm
1.5 gears
60.1

at 23 pitch the prop has negative slip (grip)

and even if you add an inch of pitch for the mirage plus or cupping you have .008 slip which is super efficient

Boating Mag did an instrumented test of the 16 with the little diesel maybe 8 or 10 years ago. I've got that issue kicking around somewhere. Neat little boat, ran comparable performance numbers to the 4.3 and got ridiculous fuel economy.

I'd like to see a 25 or 26ZX with a single Duramax turned up to 500hp/1000tq. It would have to have some 5" chrome exhaust tips sticking out the transom. That would be a beast!

I always thought a Duramax in a 22 would be a riot. 800 ft pounds of torque would get you moving. Buizilla had one and thought about it for while, not sure what happened to the project. You could name is "DURADONZI". :)

Absolutely awesome. How long will a B1 XR hold up to 1300TQ?

It certainly sounds like the owner knows what the heck he is doing Duck, right? I have attached a pdf file for the archive with all the details. How many small high performance hulls have smokers? These are the only two I have ever seen so far.

Good point. It isn't horsepower that kills drives, it's torque. 1300 is a crap load. I also didn't know Merc cut a 1.26:1 gear.

And it's 1300 coming on over the course of maybe 3,000 rpm (1500-4500) and probably peaks somewhere early on and just levels out.

Very neat installation though, it looks factory. Bet it turns heads when it fires up at the swimming hole.....

I feel bad for the owner when he realizes what folks pay for used boats these days. He obviously spent a lot of time getting a strategy together and then opened his wallet.

Yeah roger. The $18k opening bid wouldn't even cover the cost of the built Dmax and drive. The darn head studs are $600 and the forged pistons probably $2k. How much is the XR? Like $12k? Everything listed looks like quality stuff.

Even the $32k "buy it now" has to be a substantial loss when you consider the labor, hull, rigging, custom parts, etc.

Custom boats only make sense from a $$ perspective if you're gonna keep them for a LONG time! He's gonna need to find that ONE guy that just has to have this boat and/or take a bath on it.

It's like seeing high-dollar custom cars roll through the BJ or Mecum auctions on the wrong night and bring pennies on the dollar.

My good friend (in my wedding friend) ran this boat and used to work at Mastry in Tampa. He LOVED it. So much so he still talks about getting a 22 and sticking a yanmar in it. His comment is always around the fact that he will burn half the fuel and can run all day at 60 Vs. reaming the crap out of a gasser. I'm even not sold but I do think it's cool!

There's certainly something to be said for cruising at 60mph at 2,000 rpm and 13psi of boost....

Looks like the bidding closes today. I wonder what the reserve is. That model Ultimate Warlock is a ski boat and has a very shallow V.

Good catch, better than the editors. I think the text in the article says 27 inch pitch (thus, 12 percent slip). I suspect that's right, and the summary table at the end is wrong (with its stated 23 pitch).

The ebay ad says they're using a 15x35P 5B and a 15.25x37P 5B, both labbed.

For clarity, Matty and I were referring to the 1998 article about the 22classic with the 300 hp yanmar. The ebay ad Duckhunter notes above is for a 21 ft warlock with a Duramax, I think. Different boat, regardless.

I remember this thread! What happened to the Dmax Warlock?

In other news, the current Bimini Challenge record holders are building another diesel Skater, this one a 50 foot cat with twin 1,200hp/2,000tq custom Duramax diesels and surface drives. 100mph at 2mpg cruise...

That's a ton of power per inch out of 6.6L blocks! Wonder what the longevity looks like? The builder has a good rep with tractor pullers, but endurance boat racing is a whole different animal. Their last boat, a 39 Skater kevlar vee with T/480hp Cummins , kept eating Arneson props on their record run.

Awesome project. I'd love to get involved in some sort of endeavor like this. Pics and details at link.
