130mph for $61,000............Holy crap! Fastest V in the world?

Howard Custom Boats 28 Bullet V

This 2005 boat has been on the cover of two magazines and holds the single engine V-Bottom speed record at 130.10mph. All composite layup. TCM 1200 with 5L Whipple Supercharger, currently running a 900hp belt and program. Runs on pump premium. Engine new as of 2010. Less than 20hrs on a $25K brand new outdrive: IMCO SCX/SCT . Brand new mega stereo. Love the boat, but have a newborn and we're switching. It's been detailed and is stored indoors in Boulder. Will sell for $61k.

For 28' evidently yes. Is there something faster?

They make some fast rigs. This past weekend got dusted by a Howard Bullet 38. I was entering the century mark and he left me sittin. The 28 is one nice boat!

Greg,
You know anything about the hull? Number of steps, deadrise etc. Interesting the advances in hull design, less power(and weight) than my magnum and 40mph faster is impressive. I would think Outerlimits might have something to say about the "fastest V" claim...maybe single engine. They have a 29' that is supposed to be real fast and I've seen a 43' that was a 130mph boat from the LOTO shootout a couple years ago.

22 degree deadrise with a pad, a step, and a notch Marshall so quite a bit of cad work going on there! They are lake rockets and not really set up for offshore poundings. Howard has been around for 30 years, is one of the few builders to have made it out of the 2008 meltdown (are we out yet?) and has an exceptional reputation for quality. I'm not familiar with the Outer Limits 29 you mention. Is that a new model pad bottom V? Are they running 125? The technology marches on. The Tuff 28 V with a single 525 has clocked 95 routinely. Some say the hull and deck weigh 1700lbs on that Tuff.

The thing that is amazing about the Howard 28 is the depreciation. Where can you buy a mint 10 year old 125mph pump gas boat for $60k. You just have to like orange

Interesting to compare the look of the Outer Limits 29 with the Tuff 28. The Tuff seems to be faster with 96mph out of a 525. Tuff evidently has a demo 28 boat for sale

Correct, that and modern composite technology. You can bolt on a 300XS on the Tuff 21 deep V and do 102 on GPS.

Here is the OL 29. They claim 100mph with a stock merc525/xr.

I'm the bookend at the opposite end of the speed spectrum with my 21 deg deadrise with a pad, a step, and a notch. Like less than half... Wonder what the old bowrider would do with the shorty and 900hp?

That does seem like a solid buy at $60k.
