Idea came up on another thread...re: Finally ready for the dyno.
http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?68736-Finally-ready-for-the-dyno

Perhaps we should have a contest? Guess the HP/TQ I'll put up a top quality sweatshirt from my clothing company (PT Gear)!

Here's the skinny....

4.3L bored 5 thousandths over (hardly anything)
Vortec heads, very mild port (more of a clean up)
Roller rockers 1.6:1 (with matched springs)
Cam profile attached
Edelbrock 2114 dual plane, low rise Performer intake manifold
Edelbrock 1409 Performer 600cfm marine carb w/calibration kit
Mechanical fuel pump
Gaffrig 8"x3" spark arrestor
Hi-Tek marine exhaust manifolds
OE ignition, mallory marine 8mm wires
Aluminum circulating water pump
Alloy pullies

Closest to peak HP wins.
Tie settled by closest to max torque.
One guess per member.
(duckhunter, since you jumped before it was a contest, you may guess again, or hold firm...up to you)

***Bonus ...
Guess the weight of the engine (as dyno'd) and win a cap from my other company (Canadian Pacific Steamships)

Good luck/Bon Chance!

Official ballots below...

Duckhunter 242/280 - 735#

Whatever the final numbers are ,I hope you're pleasantly surprised.

What I'd like to know is , what exhaust manifolds do they run on the test ?
If there was some way to run the cast iron logs and then the Hi-Teks I'd like to see the comparison for sure , but I don't know if that's how things work when a marine engine is dynoed.

Hi-Tek claims a 10% increase in measured HP over the stock units.

This is a marine dyno, and the engine will be configured as it is in the boat....with my Hi-tek manifolds.

Well just got back from the dyno....
As for a report...we'll we're not done.
There were issues with the brand new Edelbrock carburettor...

-first a float was sticking. wouldn't idle under 1200 rpm but managed to pull out reasonably. After that was sorted, she would run down low but be terrible in the mid (which affected the top). we diddled with whatever we could but had no Edelbrock tuning kits (only Holly and Demon). So we have ordered a tuning kit and will take another stab on tuesday as it is a long weekend in Canada.

Should have seen the monsters that were in the test pit....7601476015 Twin turbines in the Orange boat takes her to 140mph...twin 1,100 HP fire breathing monsters in the "Perfect Storm"...what a place to hang out.

BTW they thought my 4.3 was a novelty engine...they NEVER see anything that small....

76168And the WINNER is maddad!

at 31* timing we got a perfect burn, she idles like a kitten and pulls smooth and strong with great oil pressure...

The dyno showed a best pull of: 235.7 HP @5100 / 273lbft @3500

The closest guess was maddad at 238 HP /262lbft.76167
Congratulations maddad!

Glad you got her dialed in! I'm really impressed with this build - can't wait to hear how it runs vs. a stock 190hp 4.3 motor.

I'm massively happy with the numbers so far...

The boat is light so, I'm thinking a 1:50 ratio will allow me the greatest flexibility to dial the hull in. Also, I just got a set of trim tabs to install...every bit helps.

I tell ya, those guys in their million dollar wooden boats won't know what to think about this plywood pauper.... If all goes well I may have to say she's made of "Flywood"!
