Apple (http://www.apple.com/) plans to discontinue service on the iPhone starting on June 11, 2013, and will no longer produce replacement parts. Apple says that there are exceptions to this, such as products purchased in the state of California, as required by statute, and that you may obtain service from Apple Retail Stores or by contacting AppleCare at 1-800-APL-CARE.

That is the original iPhone from 2007

The most sought-after phone once, the first generation iPhone is set to become 'vintage' and 'obsolete', six years after its launch.

Apple will officially classify its first generation model as 'vintage' in US and 'obsolete' in the rest of the world on June 11, the New York Post reports.

According to the report, the firm will provide for repair or service documentation only for the vintage models bought in California, whereas the obsolete ones will be denied access to apple repair services.

For products labelled as vintage in the US, spare parts will still be available for the next two years for customers who purchased their iPhone in California as the state's laws are responsible for the repair services.

The first generation iPhone, tagged as the gadget of the year by the Time magazine in 2007, is credited for revolutionising mobile computing with total record sales of about 6.1 million phones.

Apple's policy to change the designation of its products five years after they are discontinued, fits the original iPhone which was discontinued in 2008 when iPhone 3G was launched.

The original iPhone has not received any software support from its parent company for years and has even stopped supporting the latest Apple features.
