Hi guys my name is Greg ,Ive been lurking on here for a while now ,this is my first post ,I live on cape cod,and early two winters ago I picked up a 1972 18 fixer upper off craigs list ,with the help from a lot threads on here ive been resurrecting it to its former glory, things like using al's plating in ohio, the correct 23 solas prop ,the right taco rub rail ,finding grab rail ends.and making engine hatch lift .and ford exhaust manifolds all came from here .the latest thing ive done was the interior ,my brother owns cape canvas and rigging and with his knowledge help and equipment ,we banged out our version of a classic interior, the right color for the boat should of been black due to its past black stripe, but I went with yellow and black disco pearl swirl marine vinyl that really pops in the sun,if I was bombing around the lake back in the 70s with a gold medallion around my neck ,long hair blowing in the wind with a goatee, listening to the BEE GEEs ,this is the interior I would of wanted, but instead Ill be bombing around with sun screen on my bald spots and my beer belly jiggling in the breeze singging at the top of my lungs .ahh ahh ahh ahh staying alive staying alive

Hi Greg and welcome aboard. I'm also on the Cape and live on Mashpee/Wakeby. If you ever get over this way stop by and say hello. Your boat looks great. Colors are perfect for the 70's era. Nothing wrong with the Bee Gees.

Welcome to the Board Greg, and thanks for posting the pictures! Nicely done! The boat looks great.

I love the engine hatch with the scoop.

One question, why the Thunderbird logo above the passenger’s grab rail?

Got it! Thanks. I couldn’t quite make it out, and I have not had any experience with Holman-Moody/Ford engines/

From my limited experience, it looked like an old Thunderbird/Formula emblem, which is why I wondered about it.

Greg,
I think it looks great! I saw the blue rear seat in one picture - did it used to be blue and white? What did you do for the engine? Bill

the blue seat I borrowed from a buddy its an original 1967 built rite ,we used it to make a pattern from ,the one that came in the boat was a real bad recover job that wasnt worth copying, the engine that it had was a 351 reman w/holman moddy cam, when I got the boat it had been left out and not run for at leased 7 years I got the thing for a song,,,,,not a bee gees song,,,, so I didnt intend for it to run ,but it did and it sounded real nice, it had obvious past over heating issues and on the 3rd time out the engine let go, in dramatic fashion, **** flew every where right out of the block,it was my first real blown engine ,it was me ,my buddy and my son ,and for some strange reason I had just put oars in the boat, and boy were they used that day,so I had a usable 351 block ,had it bored and stroked to 393, crane roller cam ,forged mahle pistons ,dart heads w/ultra pro comp roller rockers,, the thing purrs

The sunsets never get old here. They may complain about the "music" these boats make but their late night parties are legendary. My sunrise cruises kind of even things out a bit

Thanks, Greg. Yep it should be a lot of fun...I can't wait! I got the rollcage NHRA certified a couple of weeks ago, so that's all set. Now it's the final build.
So what else did you get done on your boat over the winter?
Between moving recently, not having a decent shop yet, and building that p/u, I don't think I'll have time to do anything with mine except the usual maintenance...oh well, at least I'll be out there.
I sure hope the man doesn't pick up where he left off with us last year!

The Gibson Power Tip Marine Silencers have proven to reduce decibel ranges within and to surpass the 88db limits

Parnell has/had turndowns on his amazing 16.

When he showed up at a Dust-off on Lake George a few years ago, the boat got a ton of attention - but NO unwanted attention!

Well my sunrise runs may be over. Harbormaster came by yesterday and said they have had complaints of noise from my early runs. Can't say as I blame them. I will now delay my runs or go out quietly on quiet mode through the prop instead of through the pipes. I can hear it bark later in the day I guess :banghead:

Congratulations, the boat looks great.

I too have just completed a restoration of a 1972 18. it went in the water last week after a year and a half of restoration. I've had the boat since new and it doesn't feel like summer without it.

I did stringer and transom replacement so I had to let go of my Volvo drive and went with a Bravo sportmaster shortie. the engine did 417 on the dyno. i'm not sure what prop I should use. what drive do you have and would you mind telling me what style and size prop you used.

I know what you mean about the bald spot and beer belly. when I bought mine in 72 I didn't have those problems. My wife asked me if I was going to do a restoration on my self now that my Jeep CJ and Donzi have been restored.
