I wonder what the market will bear?

Seems ambitious.

It's been for sale here in the Detroit area for at lest 6 months. I thought about it before we pick up Ralph's X-18 but it looks like a big project for the price. Can you even put a B W transmission in a 18' Donzi with out cutting into the front engine bulkhead???

Good decision. You will get a LOT of enjoyment out of the “turn-key” X-18 you bought from Ralph. Also, buying his will cost you less than half of what it would take to get this boat into the same condition.

I don’t know about the cut out bulkhead thing, but I do know that there are 18s around that have TRS outdrives, so it is not as bad as it sounds.

The 18' Donzi's I have seen with Trs drives have the shorter Merc Trs trans. I think this guy has a bunch parts that may have not come from this boat.

----Mark,,,The X-18 big block that I bought new must have had a BW trans, but back then I didnt know one from another. Matter of fact, I didnt know enough to check the trans dipstick. Good thing it never leaked while I had it!!! I do know that even putting on a new fan belt was a couple of hour job. There wasnt enough room for a mouse (non-GM type) to crawl around in there........Bill S

----Man,,,That port side trim tab took a heck of a hit!!!!!!

It looks like the top deck has a pretty good crack in it as well.

Bill my 1982 38' KV Scarab & my 29' SS Mirage all came with the 454 330hp Trs package with the shorter Trs trans, & it lasted 25 + years. Your X-18 might have had the Merc trans. I know Jeff's Minx has the B W trans mounted into the Arneson drive that's in a extension box & it's close to the bulkhead.

----You could be right, Mark, as I just dont know. Its not that I have forgotten either. I just never knew what trans was in it. I do remember that it shifted pretty smoothly, though. Boy,,,How things have changed since 1979!!!.......Bill S
