looking for the longer intermediate shaft and housing ( the one for a motor with a Y pipe not the one that is part of the bell housing) for a small block chevy to a AQ 270-280.

this is the shaft from the flywheel to the drive I would think it would be a fine spline on the drive side

any leads or info would be appreciated

What style of intermediate do you have?
Can you post a picture of it?

the one Sam posted is the short one for no Y pipe, the second one that f'in posted is the longer one for a Y pipe and is what I think I need

here is what I have now for the Ford SB I would assume the chevy is close but has a different spline on motor side and a different bolt pattern on the bell housing??

I was going to look at a donor 26 bayliner but I don't think i want to dig thru all the snow I will wait til next weekend

Matty,
I will try to check this afternoon at my shop where I think I might have one that looks like the one you need - no promises that it is the one until I check. Bill

Matty, the spline on the motor side is the same because it meshes with the spring loaded connector and they have all the bolt patterns possible for ford, chevy etc. fly wheels. you just need a bell housing for a sbc and bolt what you have to it. You can use a Borg Warner, Volvo or any other aftermarket sbc bell housing with the piece you already have.

Mike,
I was wondering if that was the case I have something like this bolted to the flywheel

Bill thanks for the offer don't go crazy I think I am going to see if what i have works

I checked this afternoon to see what I had. The intermediate housing (#8153, I believe) needs a little weld work at the flange along with the shaft, but the Chevy bell housing is ready to go. If you decide you need one, just email me at Dgill25960@aol.com. Bill

Ya, like these guys said, you need a bellhousing and a damper. Should bolt right up.

I agree, you should just need the bellhousing to bolt to what you have.
The one intermediate that I posted a picture of, will work with a Y-pipe. Came from a 280 set-up with a Y-pipe.

Sam,

the Y pipe on my setup is as wide as the extension on the intermediate it almost rested on the bell housing. From the pic of what you posted there doesn't appear to be enough length from the drive part of the spline which sticks out of the transom housing and the bell housing?

in the first pic you can see there is about an 1/8th of an inch between the y pipe and the back of the bell housing

Not to throw a wrench in the works but ....

This is a V/P I bought a couple years back. Had a small Chevy chevy attached originally and power steering. All it used was a standard bellhousing.

I bought a very similar drive assembly, but I believe mine was hooked to a V8 Ford. The bell housing is definitely very close to the Y pipe as seen in the picture. Bill

Guys thanks for the pics but both of those drives are different from a 280T fin'ing posted a 290 which is a totally different transom housing from a 280T . Bill posted a non trim drive 200-thru 280 which is close but again my y pipe is shaped different it is more square then round . wonder if this is due to the ford starter posistion or from the trim lines???????????? look at the pic with the starter in it move the bell housing in two inches the nose of the starter is going to hit the y pipe.
