Buizilla, I have a very reliable transporter who is back and forth to Florida frequently :idea:

I'm a big fan of Team Warlock's, Ultimate Warlock's and Warlock's as I'm sure folks here are painfully aware of, but this Rum Runner looks mint. I believe it is the ONLY twenty six degree deadrise go fast hull ever made. A very different type of hull from the Warlock's with no step and no pad. Maybe I can find a write-up on it somewhere out there in cyber space.

Not sure how much these Sutphens weigh, but it must take a good bit of power to push a straight-v 26deg hull. Bet she's a wave crusher.

Agreed. Never measured but I read the Nova Marines were about 25.7 degrees...as you say, definitely takes some juice to push that sort of deadrise.

They are a little more efficient than we might think. It will run 63-65 with the 365HP it has, maybe 68mph light on fuel? If you want speed you buy the 2001 Warlock 25 World Class and get 78mph with 425HP and still 25 degrees of deadrise. As much as I like the Warlocks because of how efficient the hulls are, they just don't have the looks of this Sutphen 26. What makes this Rum Runner super rare is the fact it has single power, most of the 26's were twin I/O's or twin Wackers. The bonus comes from the fact that Rich Sutphen Jr is still building boats today in Florida. You could easily call him and he would give you a ton of information on the old Rum Runner 26. His new 21's are running 96mph GPS with a 525. He and his father are probably the oldest performance boat builders still in business and that's measured in decades, not years.

96" on the Sutphen Rum Runner 26, and 92" on the Warlock 25 World Class. The Sutphen is actually only 25'6" long. The 2001 Warlock rides on top with a modern pad and serpentine step. The Sutphen, well.....look at the bow shear on that bad boy below. Old School. Makes me think of HIGH LIFE ..... RIP.

Yup, definitely a cool boat. I still think that it needs to be "Inferno II," and with the extra 575hp BBC that Stan has kicking around it would be a BEAST.

Sutphen has a great history; you could probably count the number of high performance boat builders that have been around for a similar length of time on one hand.

The Rum Runner kind of reminds me of my old 97 911 Turbo. A little rough around the edges compared to the 996's but all business. I should have never sold it. :frown:
I think Dave911 on the board may have had one. Not sure if he still comes around but if he does he will have real world info as a past owner. The price of $26,900 is
probably a little on the high side for a 1989 but perhaps not if it has a newer interior, two covers, a newer trailer and checks out. Transom shot below of a Rum Runner 26 with twins.

If a 26' boat pushing 365hp does 65+....why does my 3400lb 22 with 330 only do maybe 65+ and my 24 Baja weighing 4k with 410hp only do 65+? I think these numbers are false.

are similarly unreal, and they are from a published test (by Hotboat I think). Being curious, I read some of the article and there are some tradeoffs. The Warlock 25 World Class is apparently very light, 4000lbs for a 25 footer. It also takes a week to plane. (8 seconds to 15 mph, 16 seconds to 25 mph!) I'd be concerned that in certain sea states you'd risk not being able to get out of the hole at all with that setup.

But amazingly, they made 66mph apparently from a 350 HP 6.0 Merc.

What's a "serpentine" step bottom versus any other stepped hull?

Thanks for the heads up Duckhunter but if the boat was free I wouldn't get it.. I put Sutphen on the map in Offshore racing with over 10 US Championships. I was the first one to put up alot of money on something that we didn't know if it would even run. I helped design the 30' when it was just a wood mold. I then got Great Adventure to get one and then hooked Richie up with his best dealership in Mystic, CT. and not one thanks...infact my raceboat went to the shop to have some work done on it and I was charged more than a normal customer. That next week the boat was sold.

I like the idea of a single's simplicity, engine bay room, and weight savings...but this is a pretty big boat to maneuver with a single screw. Price seems a bit high, but where you gonna find another really clean 26 Sutphen? Just needs the right buyer. Wave crusher?? I went from an 18' Gran Sport Sutphen to a 26' Rum Runner with twins and it definitely felt that way...but out in the Pacific the hull felt a bit small-ish. I'm sure a more experienced pilot could have run faster / longer, but I'd say the Rum Runner is in it's perfect element in slightly protected bodies of water. Long Island Sound. The CT River. Lake Havasu. Anyway, I'm ranting here. Speed was mid 70's with 300hp 350's and alphas. Good luck to the seller.

Yeah that sucks. They should be pimping you and your compatriots as their spokesmodels. Well, maybe not models so much as ambassadors... Leveraging their history would seem to be a good way for these older boat companies to distinguish themselves from the new guys. Can't do that if they burn bridges though!
