So I'm junking my Volvo 280 on my 1975 Classic 18 2+3 after many years and I'm replacing it with a Mercruiser Gen 2. The transom is going to be refurbished using that new stuff called Seacast. A lot of the work I can do once that is done but I've got to cut a new hole in the transom using a template. How in the world do I know where to properly cut it? Wouldn't imagine I've got a lot of wiggle room on something like that...and screwing it up means transom has to be redone.

Standard mounting height for 18 foot Donzi is X plus 1 inch.
Borrow a metal drill jig template from a Merc dealer if you can.
Keeps the holes straight and accurate.

Pretty sure I can get the centerline..pretty sure I know what an inch is and how far to place it above x....now if I could just figure out where the x is I'm good to go.

pages 11 thru 15 I think in the thread I posted 14 inches was the standard X called for on the hornet application. some one should know what the measurement is on an 18 both for the round keel and the sharp keel.
raising the x "MIGHT" lead to motor / hatch clearance issues and exhaust exit issues.
