420 lb-ft of torque, can tow up to 7,400 lbs and is said to manage 30 mpg on the highway

You gotta like that!

I only realized this lately, but the trucks, that used to be DODGE Trucks, are now RAM Trucks. They are no longer made by Dodge.

It is so frustrating to read almost anything these days, as there are typos galore.

'best-in-class fuel efficiency ad torque” I wonder what ad torque is? Are they telling us their marketing campaign for this product is powerful? I know, it should say “and torque.

Good idea though, to have a 3.0 L diesel in a 1500. I noticed they are calling it EcoDiesel. They must have gone to the same product naming seminar as Ford.

they have come a long, long way for 2013-14

anybody, that doesn't take the Ram platform seriously now, is a blind fool.. ;)

----While the mileage is commendable on the Ram the towing capacity is low as stated above. I laugh at 420 ft lbs. Tyler Crockett is just finishing up doing over my 502 for my 93 Suburban. Projected torque is well above 600. Wont know exactly how much until it hits the dyno for break-in. While Im not strictly interested in HP it should be somewhere above 500. Once the engine is dialed in Ill take on the brakes which are the sore spot when overpowering a 3/4 ton 'Burb........Bill S

The 3.0L I believe is the same 3.0L that was in the Grand Cherokee CRD from 2007-2008 and is currently in the entire Mercedes line-up. Probably a new generation of that engine, etc.

Having recently purchased a RAM 1500 I can tell you that this is NOT the same truck as a 2005 or so. It rides like a frigging Caddy and is as fast as one with the 395hp Hemi under the hood. I also get over 20mpg on the road due to cyl deactivation, etc...some say 24ish on a straight 68-70mph run. Will let you know as I only have 600 miles on it so far. My Ford friends busted my chops and I basically told them what I said above. When they shopped in 2004, sure the Ford was a better truck, now I don't think so and am very happy with my choice.

Tow capacity for the Hemi is 10,400 I believe, not that I will ever tow anything half that eight. 7400 would be fine. When I trade up in 4-5 years we'll see.

Better put another 30 gal tank in that Burb or you won't make it to the next gas station. My friend's 97 with a 454 got 6-7 or so stock....I expect 4 out of yours.

----I had this same engine in my last 93 Burb and with a lot of chip work we managed to get a repeatable 17 miles to the gallon when not towing at 70/75 mph and around 10 to 11 with my 26 foot enclosed car trailer, loaded. As well, I dont even remotely drive this truck everyday. It goes to the ramp and back and occasionally embaresses a couple of local hotheads. I know the mileage wont be as good now as we have pumped up the horsepower over the stock 502 considerably, but Ill take the hit. We did it for fun. You only live once, ya know!!!
----Oh,,,and 93 Burbs already have 40 gallon tanks from the factory. The key to not scaring myself when going to the pump is to always fill it when it hits half, LOL!.......Bill S

17mpg out of a 502 tank? I call bs! You laugh at 420ftlbs out of a 3.0l but brag about 600 ftlbs out of a 8.2l????? Hmmmmm...

----I dont much care about weather the 420 comes out of three litres or 10. I only said laugh because I as well as most of us that tow really heavy stuff need more than 420. It is a good achievement, though.
----Apparently you arent a believer, and thats OK. I cant tell you how much development time went into that 17MPG. I actually took the truck to California to have the chip burned by the foremost chip guy in the country at the time while the truck was on the chassis dyno. I put over 150,000 miles on that motor and it still ran great although it was using a quart between 3000 mile changes. Would be still driving it today if the truck hadnt got caught in a shopfire. Truck was DOA, but the engine survived to live its second life.......Bill S

What does anyone get from one tank of gas, full to empty? In other words, a "per tank full" mileage for your truck or car?

380-440 miles per tank (usually closer to the 380 mark and I fill up around 320)

2013 Toyota Tacoma Dbl Cab PreRunner 2x4 Long Bed
4 liter V6 with 236 hp and 266 ft lbs of torque with a tow capacity of 6300 lbs.

Perfect for me and my boat.

My 2005 Jeep liberty Diesel(CRD) got over 500 miles on the 20gal tank going to Alabama to pick up my 22' Classic. I got roughly 31mpg @ 70mph. On the way home on back roads towing at 56mph I got just shy of 21mpg. I will be happy to get 21 w/o the Donzi with the RAM. The Jeep was a 160hp 4cyl Benz engine with 300torque. Jeep claimed 27hwy and I could get 33. I highly doubt this new RAM is going to fetch 30 as my bud has a 2008 Gran Cherokee with the 3.0L diesel and gets mid+20's on hwy and probably weighs 800lbs less. It is about time though, I hear Chevy is coming out with a small Duratec for the 1500.

As I read it, that is what Jeep is claiming with the same engine in the Cherokee. The numbers weren't released for the Ram.
Non the less, it's about time someone offers a 1/2 ton diesel

I think FIAT has been very good for Chrysler. So far anyway.

I think a lot better than Daimler was.

Bill, I think you'll find that "Ram" is only a name change.
I'm pretty sure they are built in the same factories.

300 - 350 is pretty common. Closer to 400 for all highway.

It will be interesting to see what the price will be for the Diesel . I love diesels but for me it gets down to what it's going to cost to run on a daily basis. I've got a 08 gmc dually (for the farm)and it's towed both the boat and a four place aluminum enclosed car/snowmobile trailer. The best mileage I can get out of it is between ( driving 55/65 miles per hour) is 21 liters to as bad has 25 liters of fuel for every 60 miles. (sorry for no conversion ). My 04 GMC was better! I got rid of an 07 merc diesel ( which average 9.5 liters around town) and bought a 012 Ram Pick up with the Hemi. Towing it averages around 23 liters per 60 miles with the boat and 29 liters with the enclosed trailer (55/65 miles per hour)I can save a few liters if I draft a tractor trailer but that gets on my nerves. Will the mileage be better to justify the cost of paying more for the diesel. I wish it was but I doubt it.Wish they could put the engine that's in my wife's BMW 355d in the dodge. 265 hp/425 hp 7.5 liters per 60 miles .Great engine.

When is Cummins coming out with their verison of the Mazda coming diesel that gets another 25% or so more milage via compression and turbo selection?

I like the idea of a diesel in a half ton, but the price of gas would have to be a lot closer to diesel, before I would buy an oil burner again, of any kind.
