Sunnyland ACBS Classic Boat Show. Anyone going?

If anybody doesn't want to leave their boat in the water at the show. I always use the ramp on the Dora canal. That way if the weather looks bad I pull out and take my boat back to the hotel for the night. It's just over the bridge on 19 left on Lake Harris DR and it's back there. Nice and new. There is a dock there too. Easy to launch. Park your car there too if you want to.

It's getting close. Like to get a count (maybe a week before the show) so I can arrange to have all the Donzi guys next to each other. It's going to be fun.

Rather than start a new post, I will ask here as most attending are already subscribed to this thread.

If anyone is interested, we can have a get-together for lunch on Saturday. You can go by boat or not, up to you.

I was thinking of changing it up from past years and go back to the Hurricane Dockside Grill. This is the place along the Dead River, on the south side of 441 just west of the bridge. It is about 2.5 miles from the show.

Save the cash. Leave the boats at home and do a day trip. The show is pretty cool and it's worth spending a day walking around. It is not so big that you need multiple days.

That is not a 62. The "smirk" on the bow came out in late 71. and only lasted through 72 with the blue interior and notched transom for a 15" shaft. In late 72 for the 73 model year the insides were tan and all but a couple early hulls had 20" transoms. The 72 is my favorite hull as it is smirked and blue inside, not easy to find. Neat setup with the old Merc and the pseudo 83+ Super Sport interior.

Beautiful Whaler above - they are neat little boats. My '71 Sport has the robin blue interior, factory oarlocks, and the notched transom w/ full splashwell. No smirk.

Very few 71's had the new splashwell and the smirk, I only know of 2. HIN#'s I think came out in 73 and many states did not have boat titles til the late 80's or later(NJ was '87) so many people don't really know what they have. Even now you can title a 63 a 93 and many a sucker would not know any better with a fresh coat of paint and varnished wood, etc. Can't tell you how many Whalers I have seen with the wrong decade(or 2) on the title. If you e-mail cbennet@whaler.com with your stencil # he will tell you when it was made, what model, and what dealer it went to. Pretty neat to have if you don't already.

Just piling on, and hopefully adding a little info for any who've not run into this. Sorry if it's somewhere between a tangent and a hijack.

I think for the reasons Biggie just listed, a lot of boats got HINs assigned by the states where they were bought for the second or third time.

For instance, my Nova started its life who-knows-where in, maybe '71 or so. With no USCG-standard HIN and maybe with a title, maybe not. I suspect the original owner sold it to someone in Delaware in the early '80s, and that's when it was titled in Delaware and assigned a Delaware state-HIN. (Each state has its own manufacturer prefix so that pre-USCG-HIN boats can have one assigned later in life.) I think a lot of people get fooled at first by those state-assigned HINs--I know I was scratching my head until I did some digging on what it meant.

My 73 was actually green "like glow in the dark green"

I rather like the non blue of my 73.

My favorite Whaler is the Mischief which is based off the Super Sport 15.

I will be rolling into Mount Dora this Thursday on my newly aquired 1968 18 Classic. We are staying at te Lakeside Inn and will be taking in the show and balsting around the lakes. Looking foward to seeing alot of the boats and friends. Boat is running flawlessly thus far and we are having a blast. BTW, anyone know of the fuel capacity of an original tank on a 1968 Donzi 18? We ran for 3 hours today and I burned 14 gallons of fuel. We ran from 2500- 2500 RPM's for most of it. Did I say we were having a blast? LOL

Did you put in at the Dora ramp? Went there today and was told that the water in the ramp canal is too thin for our 22C with the present lake levels, and we are down ~ 27 ". A friend up on the Oklawaha told me the water at his dock is the lowest it has been for 17 years. Went thru the Dora ~ a week ago and just bumped slightly just above Tiki Village while trimmed up 1/4. deejay

Yes, the water is skinny this year. Couldn't use the Dora ramp. Best put in at Mt Dora and run across the lake.
