looking at purchasing my first donzi 22. Are there any years in the 1980s build to stay away from? anythging I should look for in particular when shopping for one? Is there one engine package that is more desireable than another? thanks in advance.

Buy the best one you can afford. The '80's were NOT known for consistent build quality.
In '94, American Marine Holdings took over ownership and construction of Donzi.
They did a better job overall and made some significant improvements.
If you're hooked on an earlier boat, get a survey done. Look for stringer and transom issues.

The problem with pre 88 is drives. Merc ran either the TRS or Alpha behind the 454's before releasing the Bravo 1 in 1988. Problem was at that time OMC took over Donzi so most had Cobra drives. In 93 or so they changed ownership like George said as my 1994 built in Dec 1993 is an AMH hull and the quality is much nicer than the ones I looked at. Silent choice was not available then either which is a major plus especially in states with noise ordinances. I also would not own anything other than a Bravo 1 as they are as smooth as butter and tough....but that is a personal thing. Spending a few grand more now will fetch you a few grand more in resale as well. Condition, condition, condition.
