Mid-summer get together

We are looking at putting together a casual gathering of DONZI friends and families up in the Northeast the weekend of July 12-15th. Nothing is set in stone yet, as we are working on the location and logistics still, but we would like to gauge the interest before we go to far with the planning.

Can you narrow down a location? The proposed venue is at Lake George, NY. The event will be open to all models of DONZI's, and anything else from the Aronow heritage, up to 35'. Magnum's, Cigarette's, Squadron VII, Donzi, Formula, Aronow.... you get the idea :cool: There will be no Poker Runs, or speed runs, or need for lake escorts. There will be raft-up's, picnic's, dinner's, lunches, parties, everything... Obviously, any pertinent LG rules and laws apply. There will be various water related activities throughout the 4 days on the lake, and landside. Final accomodation layouts and facilities are being finalized soon and will be announced, but will be familiar.

I personally, am only a messenger, I am NOT the organizer or even a spokesman, as this will be handled by others closer to the area.

With that all said, whether your interested or not, please reply to the poll in an honest fashion. While it is recognized that there is another Donzi related event on the same lake, this event will take on a different flavor due to the invited heritage hulls, and is not meant to be competition. Each event will have it's own attributes, and advantages. Being that 2014 will be the 50th Anniv of Donzi, I would expect the 2nd year event to be a humdinger with 2013 as the pilot event..

I'd be there! I'm camping on the islands in LG over the 4th week but I'd come back up for that weekend. I'd nail the plans down pretty early as lodging can get tight during the summer months. The Super 8 in Warrensburg is a good choice. Would there be a host hotel as well or only picnic and hangout spots?

:beer: I love the concept...but would really prefer a different venue, LG although beautiful is already hosting 2 Events, Some place less restrictive and fresh...again my opinion which is what it is...I hear great things about Lake Champlain...Vermont.

I think it would be nice to have a different place to experience... we could scout it out before hand...its not much farther away and I think alot of regulars would welcome a different Event, I know they would like to not be haunted by the Noise Police, Speed Police or see the same sites over and over again...

My observation as a native of the area is that the southern basin of Lake Champlain is highly polluted. It is a grey , dishwasher discharge color and the paper mill in Ticonderoga,New York ( International Paper) didn't help it by dumping it's waste discharge into it for years until the laws changed about 10 years ago. You can't see the bottom in two feet of water although further up the Lake , it's beautiful. Comparing it to Lake George is a crime. Champlain is 700 feet deep at its deepest point, LG is 200 feet. I've been to Champlain on a windy weekend and with 3 foot rollers, you'll have to keep the Donzi on the trailer all weekend. You could get lucky and catch it right. Champlain is 118 miles long, LG is 32. Champlain has 70 islands, LG has 165 public islands and 230 private islands. Its twice as wide as LG and you actually can get lost easy on Champlain. Did you notice on LG you don't need GPS because you can always see the shoreline. The biggest reason you don't want to go to Lake Champlain is they have a large dangerous Monster there named Champ ,(GOOGLE him,you'll see ) lurking there and he eats Donzis when he surfaces. Also , all the motels up there don't have clocks and they refuse to give you a free wake up call so your always late for all the events and could actually go for 3 days and never participate in any events and you wouldn't even know when it was time to go home. Dr.Dan, please go up there and check it out , but bring your Pantera.

I'd end up in jail. Bring it north a little to Lake Erie or Ontario and let's run the boats. Fast, loud & legal. I had to vote no. Can't eat that kind of expense for raft-ups. Might try for AOTH this year.

+3 for a different location been to lake Champlain very nice and thousand islands also very nice and maybe even lake Seneca in NY havent been but hear good things, and if a different weekend can be worked out I am all over it.

Love lake George but there are other nice spots also relatively close to the lake George area.

for the rest that are INTERESTED > it's pretty much a locked in done deal for this year, and the workable dates that are shown, July 12th-15th, 2013. The host facility will be Treasure Cove Resort that most are already familiar with. There will be a couple other facilities that have docks for spillover attendee's. This event will be a warmup prelude for the 2014 Lake George 50th Anniv Donzi event that is tentatively scheduled for July 17-20th 2014. The 2014 50th Anniv. Donzi Celebration year will be kicked off with the Mia Intl Boat Show event in February 2014. If all goes to plan, a minimum of 4 events in 2014 will celebrate the 50th year of Aronow Heritage boats in various locations, of which 2 locations are locked in now.

I'm kicking this around, but I've never driven in the NE in New Jersey and New York.
I asked Google for directions and it coughed up routes that included a few toll roads.
I seem to remember someone stating trailers aren't allowed on them?
I understand going north on I-95, but then what?

George, 95 north to the Delaware Memorial Bridge (DMB), over the bridge pick up the NJ Turnpike (they call the NJTPKE 95). If you stay on the NJTPKE it will bring you to the George Washington Bridge (GWB) in NYC, well not the city proper, but close enough that you don't want to be there unless it is 2 AM due to the traffic.

I would jump on the Garden State Parkway (GSP), it intersects with the NJTPKE. I have seen boat trailers on this highway (GSP), ie Scott Pearson hauling home "The Sting" form Lake George. Oh, did I mention liberals like abbrevations.

The GSP hooks up with Interstate 287 in NYS. Take 287 to I-87 north and after a bunch of miles, (exit 21 I think) you are at Lake George.

The tolls start at the Baltimore tunnel and end in Albany, NY. From Albany north, I 87 is free.

Maybe Matty can chime in for his spin on this.

I live on Lake George and travel back and forth to Vero Beach,Florida and I have a smarter way for you to go up North. This way is 100 miles longer but so much easier and you eliminate a grand total of $60.00 on tolls. Going the way Kens told you, can be a nightmare with a boat in tow at four PM and getting caught in work traffic in Richmond, Washington,DC or (the absolute worst between 4-6 PM), Baltimore and the Baltimore Tunnel (NO Propane tanks allowed in the tunnel) metropoloitan NYC and New Jersey (loaded with trucks) Turnpike. Go around ALL and away from these traffic jammers and even with the extra 100 miles , arrive at the same time or sooner and with a relaxed set of traffic nerves.
Get to I-95 North the best way from your house. Take I-95 North until your just south of Richmond. Get to 288 , go Northwest and go west on 64 to Staunton,Virginia.Then you go North on I-81 to Binghamton,N.Y. and connect to I-88 to Schenectady and New York State Thruway(no toll) east to Albany. I-87 North to Exit 22(1 hour)off ramp ,stay left and turn left at light. Go North on NY 9N and proceed 2 to 3 miles North,Treasure Cove Motel is on your right.
No traffic jams, no tolls, half as many trucks as the Jersey Turnpike and you meet the nicest people at Family restaurants in Pennslyvania. Probably from your house, it would be 1300 miles. 2 or (3 days is best) depending on you time off. Check Mapquest.com and move the curser over the route. I take 3 days but I'm retired, your still working so 2 days for you ,but that means 650 miles a day and that's a grind. The Daytona 500 is 150 less miles per day. You have my number and we will talk at Mount Dora. Lake George is worth the trip. It is probably the most beautiful Lake in the world or at least Benjamin Franklin thought so when he visited. Please put a visit to Lake George with your boat on Lifes bucket list.

Chachi is close but a little off. Toll roads are everywhere but Lg is worth it. Take 95 and then the turnPike north which is the main trucking highway through nj. You can tow on the gsp non commercially but you still take a chance and I would check with google. After taking the garden state parkway north, then take 287n for about 10 miles just as you enter ny, to 87n, then to exit 24. This is the Nys thruway and it's a toll road. At exit 24 follow signs for 87n. You are now on the northway. You then have an hour to exit 22 in diamond point. Exit and follow signs for 9n and behold the queen of American lakes. Drive about 10 miles along the lake to Bolton Landing and launch! If you've never been and have only been to fl lakes, you need to experience lake George. I've been camping on the islands for over 30 years and it's truly heaven.

George , when I bought my last 18 in Maine I drove 95 the whole way north and south . Trailering back across the GW and DC wasnt so bad .

:drive: Well for what its worth...when and if anyone needs specifics...I drive up there on average once every 6 weeks or so...all year long. I have real World current knowledge of the all the bells and whistles to get you around the MidAtlantic and Baltimore,Philly, NYC and all that Jazz.

Dan - hey, nice to see you around.

George - Don't let tolls/traffic stop you from going to LG. Its great. It just takes some planning to avoid Baltimore and NJ/NY rush hrs. Personally, I would avoid going near Newark NJ and deffinately not go over the GWB. If the Garden Sate Pkwy is trailer legal I would do that as Ken said or pick up 287 earlier to 87, even though it is a bit out of the way, its a much less stressfull rout. Take Dr. Dan up on his offer.

I would be better than 50% at this time for making the event.
