I sold the '86 Minx in March of '07 to Dan. Dan keeps the boat in Georgia (I think)............
He sent me this picture of it the other day after getting it and his Matthews ready for a Christmas parade.
I think it still looks pretty good for its age

Dan recently had an opportunity to sell the Minx. He told me he changed his mind after having it cleaned up, taking it to the fuel dock and listening to all the many complements on the boat.

George,

How was the ride and handling compared to the 22? Mine seems to be very tipsy at slow speeds, is this common with the 22 also?

Being tipsy is a characteristic of of a 24* deadrise hull.
If you want to cruise at 20 MPH, put the tabs down, or only make right turns!

Or go at least 40 MPH.

It handled very well. It had (probably still has) a Hydro Q4 22" prop which was perfect for that boat.
It would trim almost to the limit switch w/o blowing out or becoming squirrelly.

George, I personally never experienced the roll over issue in my Minx that you had in yours, but I couldn't agree more on the statement go at least 40 MPH. Everything just starts to work at that speed. It is either idle or 40, nothing in between.

Yes Ken, that one issue I had was related to a particular prop I used initially.
When I changed to the Hydro, It definitively went away.
I also tried two or three Turbos, they were also very good on that boat.

Dan has a sweet freaking setup there. I aspire to have a house on the water in the next 20 years.

Since some interest was shown in Dan's Matthews, here's another picture of it.
The CC also belongs to Dan.

Nothing like a fiberglass Matthews. I had a wood one 30 years ago. I loved it and miss it, but I don't miss the wood. May do it again but glass this time.
That's a nice one for sure!!

Dang, the entire fleet is top notch. That inboard lapstrake CC is killer. Fresh or salt water?
