Hello all,

I am in the process of buying a 70's or 80's 18 and would like to put mufflers in given the noise restrictions here in Canada. Can anyone recommend the best / most suitable mufflers for this boat? I still want to maintain the through hull exhaust but want to knock down the noise to acceptable levels.

I have Corsa mufflers in my Minx currently which have been fine but wanted to check with people that know more than I about these things.

thx

If the Corsas keep the sound down to an acceptable level, find a pair of those.

Where do you boat in Canada?

I know of a Minx out of the Orillia area, Lake Couchiching, and another one up in the Muskoka region, Lake Rosseau.

I installed a set of Rex Marine inline mufflers in my Ski-Sporter. Mine were 3” diameter and 10” overall length. Put them between the exhaust and tips. They worked great! They really quieted the sound down, but there was no doubt you had an open exhaust V8. Just about a perfect sound level. They were a quality product.

They make them in 3”, 3.5”, 4”. For some reason the 4” are cheaper than the 3”.

I put the corsa tips on my minx. Still sounds great at idle and you can talk while running at speed. Gave it a nice deeper tone-not so raspy.

Bill those Look real nice. The 4" DIA are only 5" long, 1/2 the the length of the 3.0/3.5. which makes the 4" cheaper as they dont need the reduction flange on both ends. That said the 4.0" DIA X 5" long will fit real nice where as the 10" longs may be a tight fit on a V/6.

I still Have the Dapars with the Gibson tips. Total DBA is about 68

----I have Corsas on my Fino and the exhaust note is just about perfect for me! However, if they are intalled close to the stock riser make sure they are oriented correctly. When you look inside the entrance to the muffler you will see the baffles. The muffler should be twisted such that there is no chance of water backing up before it goes over the baffle. I ate up a 350 Merc because of this. As well, if the muffler is close to the riser you should try to get some downward angle, not just level as there will be some reversion if the muffler isnt oriented correctly.......Bill S
