Water in Battery Compartment 92 Sweet 16

Is it ok to drill a small hole in the back wall of the battery compartment so that water will go into the bilge to drain? I am NOT talking about drilling straight down, but simply through battery compartment hole into the engine bay, water is staying in there and am about to store for the winter.

Let me know, if anyone has done something similar it would be great to see pics!

My boat is covered, etc and I am always puzzled how water gets in there. I am thinking the same on my 22.
