Bravo shift cable help.....

I'm trying to finalize the shift cable installation. The manual calls for using a "core wire locating tool" (part #91-17262A1) to determind the shift end location (look at the pictures, it's pretty self explanatory).
All I really need is the thickness of the tool plate. I can easily duplicate the position.
Can anyone help?
