Thermostat with or without bypass holes?

Guys, is there any benefit to using a thermostat with the three 3/16" bypass holes in a stock 302 HO motor :confused:?

The holes eliminate air pockets and keeps water flowing..Ed

Also makes sure you wont blow out a freeze plug.

i drill mine to 1/4"
