been a long road but finally at that point where she gets splashed. been about 5 yrs since she has seen the water this will be her first fresh water spalsh ever no more salt for her

original interior is not all that bad for being 44 yrs old, still needs a good asses and elbows cleaning but that will come after the shakedown runs, hopefully only one shakedown run and no major issues :crossfing:

Full report expected!

Congratulations! I feel your anticipation, and maybe just a little anxiety until you find out it runs great.

Please also post some in-the-water pictures. I guess this also means you got some water at your lake? Or are you having to go somewhere else for this splash?

well not all good news and not all bad news. Did have a few issues, looks like the shifter cable might be bad and the shifter boot is leaking a bit. did get towed in once then left and returned under my own power.the reverse lock is also being a PITA

thanks guys for the well wishes :)

Looks like the lake is back to normal level?

mattyboy
07-08-2012, 09:45 PM
Marlin, Bill

yes with the afternoon thunderstorms as of late, it has reached close to normal just about a foot shy of normal for a dry hot july. Greenwood lake is very Brown this year , seems the runoff has taken alot of top soil with it. In the shallows, land vegitation has taken hold so we now have land weeds not sea weeds :boggled:

After years of doing without trim . aint it great ! ?

The Benchseat that made it over here years ago had a straight 270 (or a 250 badged as a 270) minus trim and it always ran flat in my opinion.
With a 289HM he was no match for my stock 351 /Alpha and I know that trim would have made a huge difference for him .

It looks just great. Love the clean simplicity of it , and you can't beat that head hiding under the seat either ! :jestera:

she did clean up pretty well for a girl in her mid 40's on closer inspection she does have a few age lines here and there. That will be an ongoing resto.
I was pleased with the first run the motor runs strong it planes pretty quickly,I was not pushing her too hard, but ran up the 21 spinelli to 4000 rpm with a lot left to go.

I was worried with the new belly tank to the stern that she might not ride well, worried for nothing took the early Sunday morning confused wakes caused by the tubers with ease.

the trim takes some getting used to ,that will come with time was more concerned with watching the gauges and monitoring the bilge than dialing in the trim. ran a constant 170 degrees with 40 lbs of oil pressure, with 13 volts, did have some burning smells and smoke from the paint on the manifolds

the windshield I'm not sure if I am ever going to get used to, the frame seems to be right in my line of sight I seemed to be peeking over it or bending down to see.

first the hazing needs to be removed then I will see maybe cut it down like the mopar powered Md. boat or remove it and store it.

all in all I'm one happy boy :) now to smack some champagne across her nose.

a big thanks to Kenny, Scott , and all the help I had along the way.

Congratulations! Isn't that an awesome feeling to be out there boating in a thing of beauty that you had such a hand in bringing back to life?

BTW, want me to send the Solas prop out? My manifolds should be here in about a week, with the initial splash shortly there after, but if you want the Solas, I would be happy to send it.

Matty, congrats. Looks good in the water.

As far as the windshield thing goes, maybe you need an additional seat cushion to sit on.

Thanks for the kind words guys

Bill hold onto the solas a bit longer we found a 21 solas that we will try later in the week I'll let you know. good luck with yours! it is a good feeling

Ken, it must be something in the name my friend Kenny suggested the same thing I got a good chuckle out of it . when my uncle let me drive his boat when i was a kid he propped me up on an old wooden ammo box from WWI he got from my grandfather. He used it has a tool box and a booster seat for me. my aunt still has the ammo box found memories. I think my arse may have out grown it. I have a throwable cushion might try that and going to try and buff out the plexi.

CHACHI

thanks guys

the 4 inch tips seem to give it a nice rumble.

I am really happy the after run inspection was good, oil level stable and clean and clear, did find the HM water pump/alt/powersteering bracket was a tad loose and the power steering fluid was low.

I did almost stroke out once , seems I got a little over zealous with the "high temp" paint on the exhaust manifolds, nothing like smelling burnt then opening the hatch to smoke on your first hard run .
