hull 51 is a benchseat Hornet and Wa Lo at hull number 52 could very well be the first 2 +3 Hornet

Well Scott, you did it again....beautiful boat. I have only seen a somewhat similar color combo on one other Donzi, I think the one owned by Donzivol, which has a black hull, white deck, and a green stripe of a similar color to the deck on your Hornet. Was this green/black combo a regular production color combo offered by Donzi? Great job on this project!

What some here don't know is this boat, built by a gentleman from Tampa, is legendary.
Has a supercharged BBF w/about 900 HP and does about 85 MPH!
That's really fast for a V-Drive!
Oh yeah..............you can hear this boat about 1/2 mile away!
I thought this particular boat would never leave home.
How did you do it Scott???,??????????

while i'm reasonably positive it does NOT do 85... (it is seriously prop diameter limited)

it does run pretty darn well

the blower whine and surging idle are worth the price in itself, and it's LOUD

arguably, the coolest Hornet in existence

lively the color combo on donzivol's boat was very popular in the early 70's especially on the 18's from the factory

that combo would be white bottom black sides white deck and inca gold

wa lo's color combo is grumble green inca gold and white

Scott's chicken boat was like dv's color superhatz also has an 18 that color

I'll never forget the early morning at AOTH, say 6:00 AM, that this thing got fired up down at the docks. Wanted to be annoyed by being jarred awake, but the noise was too pleasant to even think of it. I don't think anyone alive slept in that morning.

Scott, nice score.

You are going to need a bigger garage.

Scott, if that's the boat that was originally from Tennessee a friend of mine used to service it every spring. It was bought new in Chattanooga, TN. I think it was a 1969 model with the Holman Moody 427. It was the lower 300 horse engine but had all the Holman Moody hardware. A guy near me bought it in about 1988 and I went to his shop to look at it. He had just bought the trailer in Sweetwater, TN. Up until then it had always stayed in dry storage in Chattanooga. I think when he sold it the engine blew during a test drive. Everyone called it the ''GREEN HORNET'', If I could ever find it I have video footage of it from the 1980's. Richy.

That's always been one of my favourite video clips (it was lost for awhile). Thanks for posting!

That one, plus the 502 Orange Hornet posted on youtube. These boats are mean with the right engine combo.

Love the Hornet model - misunderstood and under appreciated IMHO - but some of the coolest lines from all angles. Pics don't do these boats justice.

And based on Matty's hull numbers, they are even rarer than I realized. Mine is #93 and it is likely one of the last ones as a 1976 model. If you net out Benchseats, there are just slightly over 40 produced.

Scott, you've got some seriously cool boats now - again, congrats!

V-Drive, yes that's the boat. Thank you for more information.

the info I have on 51 is scetchy, hull 59 is a 1971 and a mopar powered benchseat and probably the last one.

Rob yes the 19 foot Hornet at 96 total are very rare my hull 38 was popped in april of 68 hull 48 was popped in dec of 69 some 20 months later close to 10 hulls in 2 years at that time they were popping 10 16s a month and probably close to the same in 18s
