I know there's been some dicussion recently on whether to ( or not to) foam in aluminum fuel tanks.
I've decided to go ahead and foam them in, but can't remember what type of coal tar would be best
suitable for the aluminum tanks before foaming them in....... are they all the same?........George??
Just wondering if this Rust-Oleum I found would be good to use before burying the tanks.....Thanks

Hi Pete.
There's probably no real difference between them.
When I first did the Minx tank, I searched all over the place and only found one company supplying it.
They required I buy 5 gallons!!!!!!!
I would still do a good prep job on the aluminum first though.
Maybe some analyne and a thin coat of chromated epoxy primer, just to make sure the no corrosion present.

Even though the coal tar is in an epoxy base, it's still some pretty messy stuff (smelly too). It never really gets hard.
I suspect that w/o the epoxy, it'd be similar to tar. I think it's kind of like modern galvanized sheet steel used in cars, that's heals itself when it's scratched.

Good luck and put a clip on your nose so you don't have to smell the stuff! LOL

This is the same system That I have used for my Minx tank.

I bought it from Grainger.
