I just made a deal to purchase a Minx out of New Jersey. I was wondering how many years they were made for, how many were built and also were there any changes made to the hull or deck to signify what year one might be? Were there different power packages available or were they just 260/Alpha combos? Thanks in advance,Steve

VetteLT193 (http://www.donzi.net/forums/member.php?5558-VetteLT193) had 164 I have 163 there is an alleged 165 but it hasn't come out of the wood work . G carter started a build number and owner list he might still have it. I think it was 1986 to 1988 I beleive that there weren't any Minxs actualy built in 1988 they were all in process from 1987. This is when Donzi trade hands to new owners and the windshield changed on the 1988 to a stainless steel frame. They suposedly came with a 454 option.

Thanks for the info. I know a guy who has an 88 TR but for some reason he painted it white and took off the windshield. He claims it runs 75 with a 350hp small block Chevy and an Alpha SS drive, is this possible?

Here's the list:
http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?39260-Donzi-Minx-Hull-Numbers
It's no longer at all up to date, but maybe still useful.

I did a deck off restoration on my boat, and here's a link to it:
http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?36703-Break-s-over!

The Minx isn't a particularly fast hull, maybe it's the additional frontal area, I'm not sure.
But there's a supercharged SBC powered Minx, and BBC powered boats, but top speed to the best of my knowledge, none of them go much over 70. I blue printed the bottom of mine, and w/a fairly healthy SBC, the best it ever did was about 65.
I posted a number of threads on the work I did on my Minx. If you do a search on screen name, you'll find quite a few.

Good luck w/your new boat.

Correction: VetteLT193 (http://www.donzi.net/forums/member.php?5558-VetteLT193) had 166 and it was built in January of 88. Last one off in George's list. The color scheme on that was a custom Shelby style paint job.
good luck with the project.

Who owns the Minx with the Arneson Drive on it? Im curious about how that ran. Im looking to put around 550hp smallblock in this boat and I dont want the weight of a Bravo and I know the Alpha wont stand a chance with that much power. Since I have to pull the deck I might as well keep going.

The Arneson Minx belongs to Jeff Hall (HallJ).
He just finished a deck off rebuild including a new tank, ballast tank, and blue printing the bottom.
He's searching for the right prop now. So far, he's still looking.

Jeff is a pretty handy, crafty guy. He has a 350 w/a modified multi port FI system hw devised himself.
I don't think he's hit 70 yet.

George do you know of any that are breaking 70 by any chance?

There's a very nice Minx in Miami owned by Dale Evans (Dalelama) that's BBC powered and it's in the 70's.

As for handling the Minx is great. Ride is great too. Something about the length just doesn't do it for top end. 60's is easy to get. 70's not so much. When I had mine my butt instinct thought it needed the drive moved back and up with an extension box. It feels like a 22 but with the engine closer to the driver. I think going aggressive with an extension box and tabs (kinda like the Cig 20 guys do) will make the boat run great. Blackhawk drive would also probably work well as the Minx always seemed to run flat relative to the 22... similar again to how the Cig 20 runs compared to the 22. If I still had mine and wanted more speed I think I'd be on the phone with Phil from Lipship to pick his brain on the Cig setup because my gut says the Minx needs a nearly identical recipe for speed.

Ken L sent some props for me to try. The biggest problem is getting a big enough area to run.

Lake St. Clair, Here I come!

Hey Joseph M ! I have hull #165 ...and I'm officially "out of the woodwork" ! Just bought it last September up here is beautiful Kelowna, BC. As far as I know it's had 3 previous owners and is the only yellow Minx I've seen. Supposedly ordered special by the first owner in California, as was the two small teak swim platforms. Has the stock 350 Magnum in it now...but I've had a 383 stroker built for it.

I just made the deal to buy a Minx in the same color as yours. Your boat looks good. Are you running a stock Alpha on there?

looks like Barrie has another built in 1988. pretty cool. Yellow is a very rare color for the Minx. only two I have seen are the ones we are talking about in this thread.

Yes....it's still the stock Alpha in it ! The whole boat is stock....not a guage or any aftermarket pieces have been added that I can tell. Wow...2 yellow Minxs in the same thread....cool !

I don't feel so all alone now !

Here's a picture of the stroker I had built over the winter and will be putting in later in the month.

yes the yellow is a very uncommon color on the minx. There was a yellow one in the CT river a few years ago.

one thing to remember when comparing the Minx to the 20 Cig the bottom is different from the mid 90's on the 20 has a pad

anyone have a line on hull 62 a red and white one named sweet poison, sold out of the ohio area early 2000's

BOT good luck with the boats guys . nice mill barrie
