I have a 2005 Donzi 23 (22.6) special edition ARONOW.
Only 7 boats were manufactured from this series. I think that the one I have is one of the 2 remaining in the USA?? The motor is a 496 MAG HO. The boat is yellow and it is like new barely used.
I have had heard so many opinions about the boat and its value that I don't know where to start. I will like to sell it. Is there anyone that can give me information about this boat?
Thank you for your attention

I think I remember seeing a red one that was for sale in florida is couple years back. I could be wrong but there were about 20 made.

I can't give you the exact history on that boat but can give you a general history on the Aronow Edition/22GT/ Shelby.

there were very few Aronow Editions made. Donzi was coming off the 40th editions and the brief success with going back to it's old school heritage. They came up with the Aronow edition which featured 22zx style buckets and re-designed back seat padding. other changes like the raised X and scoop , lourved vents and of course the fairing. a red Aronow made it's first appearance at the dealer meeting in fall of 2004 for the 2005 model year.

I thought the total number was about 5 but 7 may be the number before the Aronow family decided that Donzi should have consulted them in using the family name without permission or any compensation. blue liner or high liner fron BC area, forget the exact name had an awesome blue and white striped AE made which i thought was the last. this boat gave Donzi the styling cues for the 22gt which came after the AE when Donzi had to vacate the Aronow name. The Aronow family was working at that time on reproducing some of Don's later designs. as far as i know the gt and the aronow were basically the same setup lest the custom plaque with a hull number on the dash pronouncing it and AE. The GT was short lived as well it had a few issues like a funky 2 stick shifter pod that was way too high. a few of us went down to atlantic city during the boat show to win one that Bally's was giving away. then Donzi decided to pay a sponsor and the 22gt morphed into the shelby edition.

the number of AE and 22gt's each are single digit.

Let me clarify the ad campaign for the Ballys give away was a metallic gray and white 22gt by the time it got to the giveaway the actual boat was an early Shelby In those colors Typhoon with Frank C had a blue and white Shelby also in AC at the show during the giveaway too

The original red Arronow made it to "The Homecoming" that year. I liked it except for the shifter.
I really liked the interior and thought the bolt in back seat would have been a great upgrade for any 22.
I'd love to have that interior in my TR.

I updated the list of 22 Aronow Edition boats at the end of this post (http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?40147-22-Aronow-Edition/page4) a while back.

If anyone is seriously interested in this boat I could give it a personal lookover, it is just a few minutes from my office.... Victor came to my office before posting it here, and we had some discussion on it, it is a NICE example of a rare breed and I think has less than, or somewhere around, about 35ish hours on it. The original owner was a local Doctor who had little time for it, BUT it was stored inside a climate controlled warehouse with some other toys of his and kept VERY clean... a local surveyor is available for non-local interested buyers.

Does anyone have a pic of the "weird" shifter in the Aronow edition? I can't find a close up pic.

2 years ago the red one for sale in Florida was down to 33k .
Nice boat but you have to .love yellow! Are that the same seats that were in the 009 and Shelby?

Man that is one clean boat. Is it my imagination or is the engine compartment smaller that a 22C? Does not look like a lot of room to work in there. I noticed the bunks on the trailer are on an angle, does this make loading easier?

Thanks for the history lesson, lots of twists and turns with the Donzi line for sure.

Not the same seats as the 009. Here are the 009 seats:

That shifter is actually nice, I'm not sure why everyone thinks it is weird.

The shifter just has an add-on look to me. Maybe they could have modified the mold for with an insert to make it look better.

I don't think it was looks I think it was ergonomics. It was too high And was uncomfortable to use

It's the same shifter as the Shelby's, just a Livorsi side unit.

One critical factor of this boat is, has it had the "stringer update" done. With only 35-ish hours it's probably not showing any signs of the typical problems but put some time on it and it probably will. The pictures seem to suggest that the update has not been done. I'd factor this into the price.

Rick, nice catch for the future buyer.

Rick, what is the stringer update that you speak of?

Carl C

"Rick, what is the stringer update that you speak of?"

The people directly affected are probably sick of talking about it. The '05 and other close years had an issue with the hull flexing under the engine. The factory fix seems to have fixed the problem. It involves pulling the engine, stripping the bilge coat and glassing in two mini stringers and filets along the main stringers. I went further and added four layers of stitchmat. It's all here if you use the seach. "Is this hull failure" might be a good place to start.

here is the refined version of the shifter pod in the blue and white early shelby that was used as the show boat in 2006 in nyc and atlantic city you can see they lowered it and the fasteners are hidden now.

the first pic i posted of the gt the throttle is higher than the windshield and the top of the pod is almost even with the top of the combing. In the second pic of the shelby the shifter is much lower and the top of the pod is well below the top of the combing

Rocky I would imagine by the time your 009 was built Donzi was well aware of the issue and was not going to go thru that again

I don't know what hull number it is, but don't forget Jeff's (Bald Eagle) 22 AE, which he has transformed into quite the potent rocket ship.

This also shows the throttle/shifter location.

I thought this was a FOR SALE section?

shouldn't this shifter discussion be moved to another topic header? :nilly:

This is "Donzi Performance Talk" and the original post wasn't an ad but was asking for information about the AEs. ;)

I can't swear it's true, but I saw a 22C and an Aronow together, and I thought the transoms and motorboxes looked a little different. Could have been above the rubrail only, not sure.
