Donzi Classic Instrument Panel

I'm going to pull the instrument panel off my 1969 Ski Sporter to refinish it. The prior owner had painted over it but I'd like to replate it. I have not found a good close up picture of an original to know what the original finish should look like-- anyone have any good photos or knowledge they'd like to share?

Very nice restoration in the photos. The panel I have is the other style where the instruments are arranged in a row either side of the tach. I'm assuming its a brushed finish as well? Also, the black edge around the panel, your touch or original?

you are referring to the earlier 16 and Corsican dash panel like this one. same premise black backing plate brushed insert

Matty-- thats it exactly. I didn't realize there was an insert. I think mine may be missing. I'm going to have to go take a look.

Sorry - wasn't sure when they switched styles - thought it was around '69.

My '66 18' had a dash plate like the one at the top of the page.

When you get it striped douse with oven cleaner it will not hurt the surface.

Does anyone have a dash panel insert they'd be willing to part with? My insert is the early style where the gauges are all in a straight row.

I kept the same bevel as on the stock plastic black piece around the edge also which, btw, is 10 degrees.

Hey Jeff, the one I have is like the ones cited in the other pics. More of a trapezoid shape with no radius on top. I hope you score what you're looking for!

Here is the dash on my 66, maybe it will help to see a few panels. Gauges were replaced with "as close as possible" new except the tach which is original. I might have the tach restored, but it works fine for now. Oil is now replaced (and everything has been cleaned up, sorry it is so dirty). Mine panel was painted by my dad, and I actually like it that way for my tastes, but I may have it powder coated at some point.

My Dad's old Ski Sporter had that same style tach. 3600 was "cruising speed"! My dad could be persuaded to go faster, my mom (who drove the boat only when she had to), NEVER! It's amazing the stuff that comes back to you.
