View Full Version : Boating is a lifestyle I really enjoy

With all the recent banter on this forum, I had to remember why I am here reading and contributing - I love boating, pure and simple. I have driven boats since I was about 8 years old and have never grown tired of the pleasure I derive from them. I restored my first boat (1953 Chris Craft 18' Riviera) when I was 26 years old and have since restored so many that I have lost count. There is nothing to me as rewarding as taking out a boat that you brought back to life, but driving a boat that I didn't restore is also a pleasure. Cutting through some big waves, idling with the sun glistening off the freshly waxed deck at sunset, watching the scenery as I cruise with the bright sun and fresh air blowing my hair back, looking at my passengers napping to the lulling sound of the engine as I cruise - you all know the feelings you get - I saw my first Donzi in the mid 60s at Grand Lake in Oklahoma and knew I would have one when I could afford one which happened in 1973 when I bought a 1971 18' 2+3 (the very boat I bought back and restored in 2008 - http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?52903-1971-18-2-3-getting-started&highlight=1971+Donzi+18%27+started) I am 59 now, but I still enjoy boating as much as when I was much younger. I look forward to many more years of my favorite activity other than - you know - lol. Bill

Well said, Bill!
Sometimes we forget why we do this... it's a freedom that can only be achieved on the water. No matter if your boat is old or new, big or small, has a windshield or not... it's about the boating! :)
Thanks for pointing it out!

All of this is well said, but "you know" is the best, unless it is on your boat, then it is even better! :)

I often scoff at the old saying, "the best two days in a boat owner's life is the day he buys it and the day he sells it." I'm certain that is false because of the big smile and rush that I have every time that I ease the throttle forward and take off.
Thanks for the reminder, Bill. You're the man!

"the you know" was fun but a bit challenging in the 16 a bit open and a bit cramped . The front storage locker in the benchseat is more than enough room and privacy . the only issue will be the After "you know" smoke with the tank right underneath you!:kaioken:
here is a pic of what the storage locker looks like ( 2 against the back wall). looks alot like a pine box which is nice cause Marie told me I was getting burried in my Donzi

after owning a 16, 18, 20, 22, and a Critter, all I can say is, thankfully, there is a deckboat :kingme:

Suddenly, I am warming up to the concept of a deckboat. But for now, the SS trumps them all for me.
